Introduction
The Window
The Insertion List window contains a row of data fields at the top of the window and a list of component insertions in the bottom portion of the window.
Data Fields: A row of data fields is located at the top of the window for adding, editing, or deleting information in the window.

Adding Data: Use the New option under the Component menu bar heading to add a new line of component data. Select New to clear the data fields. Enter data as required and push the [Tab] key to move to the next data field. When all the data fields have been filled, push [Enter] to keep the data. Valid values are listed at the right of the window when the cursor is moved to each data field.

Editing Data: Select the line of data to be edited from the insertion list. The information is displayed in the data fields at the top of the window. Alter the data as desired. Push [Enter] to keep the changes.

Delete Data: Use the Delete option to remove one or more lines of data from the insertion list. Select multiple rows by holding the [Ctrl] key and selecting additional lines of data. Select the Delete option under the Component menu bar heading to delete the selected data.
When selecting a line of data, a flashing dotted line may surround the line of data. This is a graphical cursor similar to the flashing underline found in many textual applications.
If you double-click on a line of data, the associated graphical window is displayed with target arrows indicating the item selected. This allows you to view how the component is located on the board.
The data fields in the Insertion List window are as follows.

Ref ID: The reference ID is a unique name assigned to the component insertion. A maximum of six alphanumeric characters is acceptable; blanks are not valid.

Component ID: The component ID identifies the component and is assigned in the component database.

X Pos: The X Pos defines the coordinate of the component in the X direction with respect to the reference point. Measurement is to the center of the insertion holes. (Refer to the Product Editor module for information about the reference point.)

Y Pos: The coordinate of the component in the Y direction with respect to the reference point. Measurement is to the center of the insertion holes.
When error-checking is performed for component position, the location of the component body is verified rather than the leads. As long as the component body is on the board, the position is considered valid.

Database 0°
Board 0° Board 90° Board 180° Board 270°

Hole Span: (Axial machine only) Hole span defines the center to center distance between the insertion holes. The Product Editor reads the default hole span value from the component database and automatically enters this value in the Hole Span field. If your application requires a different hole span, this value can be edited.

Depth Stop: (Axial machine only) Depth stop defines how close to the board the driver tips stop during component insertion. The Product Editor calculates this value and automatically enters this value in the Depth Stop field. If your application requires a different depth stop, this value can be edited.

Anvil Span Offset: (VCD-Sequencer only) The anvil span offset defines the offset of the anvil span from the hole span. The Product Editor reads a default anvil span value from the component database and enters this value in the Anvil Span field. Typically, this value is zero which means that the anvil span equals the hole span. If your application requires an anvil span offset, it can be entered in the Anvil Span field.

Settle Time: (Radial components only) Settle time is a delay between the time the component is inserted into the board and the clinch cut begins. This delay affects only this insertion on the primary circuit and corresponding insertions on any board offsets. Use the settle time delay only if there is a clinch problem with this insertion.
Valid values are 0 (default), 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50.
Using any settle time delay slows throughput.

Considerations:
If a component has a settle time defined in the database, that settle time is assigned to all insertions of that component in a product. If an individual insertion is changed to another value, that value overwrites the database settle time only for that insertion in that product. The settle time in the database remains unchanged.
Refer to the New Component module for further information.
Example: Settle time for component A in database is 20.
When component A is used in a new product, the settle time is
20. If the settle time for component A is changed to 0 in the insertion list of the new product, the settle time for component A is then 0 for that product only; the settle time in the database remains at 20.
Insertion List: Each component insertion is listed in the insertion list and contains the insertion data. When the right trackball button is pushed over a line of data, a pop-up menu displays the following.

Reference ID and Component ID of the selected component

Copy

Delete
From this pop-up menu these options can be accessed quickly without having to use the menu bar headings. For support of these options, refer to the Table of Contents of this module.

New
Use the New option to define a new component insertion. When you select the New option, the data fields in the insertion list are cleared.
To define a new component insertion:
1

Select the Component menu bar heading.
2
Select the New menu option. The data fields in the insertion list are cleared and the cursor is placed in the Ref ID data field. (Insertion List window for axial machine shown.)
When the cursor is moved to some of the data fields, a pop-up dialog appears displaying valid values, a valid range of values, and units if necessary. To remove this pop-up dialog, push the [Esc] key.
3
Enter a unique reference ID in the Ref ID data field. (This field is optional. If no value is entered, the Product Editor automatically enters a numeric value.)
4
Push [Tab] to move the cursor to the Component ID data field. The Component List window is displayed.
a.
Select the category which contains the desired component definition. A list of the components in the selected category is displayed in the Components list box.

b.
Double-click on the appropriate component ID from the Components list box. The selected component is entered in the Component ID data field.
5
Push [Tab] to move the cursor to the X Pos data field. Enter a valid X coordinate for the component insertion.
6
Push [Tab] to move the cursor to the Y Pos data field. Enter a valid Y coordinate for the component insertion.
7
Push [Tab] to move the cursor to the Theta data field. Enter the appropriate rotation with respect to the component at zero degree rotation in the component database. Refer to the topic titled The Window earlier in this module for details about component rotation.
8
(Axial machines only) Push [Tab] to move the cursor to the Hole Span field. Enter the appropriate hole span value.
