　　IV. Classification of water for pharmacy and water quality standards:

　　1. Classification of water for pharmacy

　　(water for technology: water for pharmaceutical production technology, including potable water, purification water, water for injection)

　　1) potable-water: generally speaking, the tap water and phreatic water are from water company, we can call them raw water, their quality must accord with the national standards GB5749-85(sanitary standards for drinking water). In the 2005 chinese pharmacopoeia rules, we mustn’t use potable water to manufacture drugs or test.

　　2). Purification water: The raw water after distilling, ion exchange, reverse osmosis or other suitable methods, we can get the water for manufacturing medicine, without any additional agents. Purification water can be used as solvent to make up common drugs or the water for test, but we mustn’t use it for making up injection.

　　We adopt non-heat-treatment methods of ion exchange, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration etc. to manufacture purification water, we also call it deionization water.

　　We adopt distilling to manufacture purification water in the special distiller, we can call it distilled water.

　　3) Water for injection: we make purification water as raw water, after distilling in the special distiller, cooling, and membrane filtration, we can get the water for injection.

　　Water for injection can serve as the solvent for manufacturing the injection.

　　4) Sterile water for injection: according to the production technology of injection, we use the water for injection to get the sterile water for injection.

　　Sterile water for injection can be used for solvent of sterilized powder or the diluent of injecta.

　　2. Water quality standards of water for manufaturing medicine

　　1) drinking water: It should comply with the national standard of the

　　People's Republic of China “sanitary standards for drinking water”
