  Introduction:

  Softening equipment uses cation resin to soften the source water, the main purpose is to adsorb the calcium and magnesium ion in the water(they are the main elements to form scale), reduce the hardness of source water, which also can have the resin regeneration intelligently and cycle use.

  1. Based on saving costs, the user can choose the manual control system.

  2. If water is used continuously for 24h, according to the water-use time, the user can choose alternative regeneration, one use and the other stand by.

  3. According to the requirements of water quality, the user can choose different configurations: first-stage can be equiped with multi-media filter, which is to remove the mud and sand, iron rust, colloid and suspended sustances in the water; second-stage can be equiped with active carbon filter, which is to remove the pigment, peculiar smell, biochemical organic substances in the water, reduce the residual chlorine value and pesticide pollution; third-stage can be equiped with softened water equipment.

  The operation principles of softened water equipment

  Because the hardness of water is indicated and formed by calcium and magnesium, we usually use cation exchange resin(water softener) to make the calcium and magnesium ions (the main elements of forming the scale) go into the resin, then along with the increase of calsium and magnesium ions, the capacity of removing calcium and magnesium ions becomes lower.

  When the resin adsorbs a certain number of clacium and magnesium ions, it must regenerate, the regeneration is that we use the salty water of salt tank to flush the resin layer, make the hardness ions of resin out, which can be discharged to the outside of can along with the regeneration sewage, then resin recovers the softening exchange capacity again.

  Because the hardness of water is indicated and formed by calcium and magnesium, the principle of sodium ion exchange softening treatment is to make raw water get through sodium type cation ion exchange resin, and exchange the hardness elements calcium ion and magnesium ion in the water with sodium ion in the resin, then adsorb calcium ion and magnesium ion in the water, then the water is softened. If we regard RNa as sodium type resin, the exchange process as follows:

  2RNa + Ca2+ = R2Ca + 2Na+

  2RNa + Mg2+ = R2Mg + 2Na+

  That is to say, when the water passes by sodium ion exchanger, the calcium ion and magnesium ion will be replaced by sodium ions. Generally speaking, the operation precess of control valve: operation, backwash, salt adsorption, slow wash, supplemental water for salt tank, direct-wash.

  Working preocess and requirements of softened water equipment

  1. Working process of softened water equipment

  There are five processes in the operation: operation(sometimes we call it production water, the same below), backwash, salt suction(regenration), slow flush(replacement), fast flush. The working processes of different softened water equipment are close, because of different practical technologies or requirements of control, some additional process maybe added. Based on sodium ion exchange, all the softened water equipment are developed from these five processes (thereinto, full-automatic softened water equipment will add the process of salt reinjection).

  Backwash: the equipment after a long operation, there will be a lot of dirty matters which are intercepted on top of the resin, only if we remove these dirty matters, the exchange resin can be completely exposed, the effect of regeneration can be guaranteed. The process of backwash is from the bottom of resin to the top, then outflow from the top, thus we can flush away the dirty matters intercepted from the top. This process will need about 5-15 minutes.

  Salt suction (regeneration): it is the process of injecting salty water into resin tank. The traditional equipment is to inject salty water with salt pump, but the full-automatic equipment adopts special built-in injector to suct salt(only if the feed water has a certain pressure). In the practical working process, the regeneration effect of salty water flowing by resin at the slow speed is better than resin only soaked in the slaty water, therefore, all the softened water equipment adopts this kind of way to regenerate, this way is to make salty water flow by resin at the slow speed, this process will need about 30 minutes, the time is up to the quantity of salt.

  Slow flush(replacement): after making salty water flow by resin, we use raw water to slowly flush the salt on the resin at the same flow rate, this process can be called slow flush, because there still have a lot of calcium and magnesium ions replaced by sodium ions, acccording to practical experiment, this process is the main part of regeneration, many people call this part replacement. It has the same time to salt suction, that is more or less 30 minutes.

  Fast flush: in order to flush away the residual salt throughly, we should adopt the close flow rate with practical operation flow rate, use raw water to flush resin, the final effluent should by the qualified softened water. Generally speaking, the process of fast flush needs 5-15 minutes.
