Abstract
L-Menthyl Lactate, is a classic ester derivative of L-menthol and lactic acid, recognized as a mild high-efficiency cooling agent in global cosmetic, daily chemical and food industries.
Description
It is white crystalline solid, molecular formula C13H24O3, melting point around 40–42°C, purity ≥99%. Soluble in ethanol, propylene glycol and oils, slightly soluble in hot water, nearly insoluble in cold water. It bears extremely faint mild mint aroma, almost odorless compared to L-menthol. It is the ester of L-menthol and L-lactic acid, FEMA approved (FEMA 3748) with good thermal and formulation stability.
Function
Delivers gentle, ultra-long-lasting cooling sensation, 2–3 times longer than pure menthol, no burning, stinging or sharp irritation on skin and mucosa.
Barely masks base flavors or fragrances, allows creating non-mint cooling formulas freely.
Gradually releases menthol via skin enzyme hydrolysis for steady mild refreshment; also offers mild anti-inflammatory, redness-soothing and calming effects for sensitive skin.
Compatible perfectly with WS series coolants, menthol and various flavor/fragrance bases to build layered fresh cool notes at low dosage.
Application
Food & oral care: Chewing gum, mint candy, beverages, toothpaste, mouthwash and oral sprays for soft fresh coolness without overpowering mint taste.
Cosmetics & personal care: After-sun gel, cooling lotion, shampoo, scalp care, aftershave, sensitive skincare and sport soothing creams.
Fragrance & household: Cooling perfumes, body sprays, refreshing laundry essences and air fresheners.
