1. Product Overview

Steel sheet piles, also known as Larsen sheet piles, are hot-rolled or cold-formed section steel with special interlocking clutches. They are driven into soil by pile hammers, and the interlocks engage with each other to form a continuous, watertight retaining wall. Widely applied in temporary support and permanent hydraulic structures, they feature high strength, reusability, fast construction and excellent sealing performance. They are the mainstream enclosure materials for foundation pits, river channels, ports and flood control projects.

2.1 Classification by Production Process

  1. Hot-Rolled Steel Sheet Piles (Main Heavy-Duty Type)Manufactured in compliance with GB/T 20933-2014, formed under high-temperature rolling. They feature thick wall thickness, high clutch strength and outstanding bending resistance. Suitable for deep foundation pits, offshore docks, permanent retaining walls and high-water-head cofferdams, reusable for over 20 times. Ideal for heavy-load projects and complex geology with gravel or shallow rock layers.

  2. Cold-Formed Steel Sheet Piles (Lightweight Economical Type)Rolled from steel strips at normal temperature, light self-weight, flexible specifications and lower cost. Mainly used for shallow foundation pits, river slope protection and temporary drainage trench support, applicable to shallow soft soil projects. Normally reusable for 8–15 times.

2.2 Classification by Cross-Section Shape

  1. U-Type Steel Sheet Piles (Larsen Piles, Most Widely Used)U-shaped cross section with symmetrical central clutches for stable assembly. Standard models include PU10, PU12, PU16, PU22, FSP-IV, etc. Suitable for temporary foundation pits, bridge cofferdams, municipal drainage and medium & small river regulation, with sufficient stock available.

  2. Z-Type Steel Sheet Piles (Heavy-Duty with High Bending Capacity)Z-shaped cross section with clutches arranged on both side edges, featuring larger section modulus and strong lateral bearing capacity. Applied to deep-water docks, seawalls, permanent flood walls and large-scale land reclamation projects, the preferred choice for long-term hydraulic works.

  3. Flat Web Sheet Piles (Flat Piles)Flat plate surface with prominent clutch tensile resistance. Used for circular cofferdams, cellular dock compartments and fully watertight cabins, resisting water pressure via overall clutch tension.

  4. Composite Steel Sheet Pile Walls (H-Beam + Sheet Pile Combination)H-beams serve as main load-bearing piles with sheet piles filled for water stop, greatly improving overall rigidity. Applied to ultra-deep foundation pits, large ports and sea-crossing cofferdams under high load conditions.

3.1 Domestic Standard Materials (Regular Stock)

  • Q235B: Yield strength ≥235MPa, for shallow temporary support and ordinary municipal foundation pits

  • Q355B/Q355C: Yield strength ≥355MPa, general hot-rolled sheet piles, universal for river and bridge cofferdams

  • Q390B/Q420C: High-strength grades, specially for deep water, deep foundation pits and marine engineering

3.3 Core Mechanical Indicators

Tensile strength: 470–630MPa; Elongation after fracture ≥17%. Clutches are heat-treated for enhanced tightness, free of leakage under high water head. Good low-temperature toughness, stable construction under -10℃ ~ 55℃ ambient temperature.
