The 300 TPD (Tons Per Day) Copper Slag Recovery Rotary Kiln is an advanced, specialized thermal processing system designed for the metallurgical recycling industry. Copper slag is a valuable by-product of copper smelting that contains high concentrations of iron compounds and unrecovered copper.
This 300 TPD rotary kiln system is engineered to perform reduction roasting or magnetic modification roasting on copper slag. By altering the chemical properties and mineral phases of the slag at high temperatures, the system enables the efficient extraction of metallic iron and residual copper. It turns a hazardous smelting byproduct into profitable mineral resources, helping metallurgical plants minimize waste and maximize metal recovery rates.
Working Principle
The operation of the 300 TPD copper slag recovery rotary kiln relies on high-temperature reduction and phase reconstruction:
Material Preparation and Feeding: Copper slag, often mixed with a specific ratio of reducing agents like pulverized coal or coke breeze, is continuously fed into the kiln from the higher end, known as the kiln tail.
Transport and Tumbling: The kiln shell is installed at a gentle slope of 3.5 percent to 4 percent and rotates slowly. Driven by the main motor, the copper slag and reducing agent mixture tumbles and rolls inside the kiln, ensuring thorough blending while gravity gradually moves the material downward toward the lower end, known as the kiln head.
High Temperature Reduction Roasting: A high-performance burner at the kiln head injects fuel to maintain an internal operating temperature usually between 1000 and 1250 degrees Celsius. In this controlled reducing atmosphere, the iron oxides within the copper slag are reduced to magnetic iron or metallic iron, and the copper-bearing phases aggregate into larger, separate particles.
Discharge and Phase Separation: The hot, chemically modified slag is discharged from the lower end of the rotary kiln into a cooling system. Once cooled, the material is sent to subsequent crushing and magnetic separation stages, where the highly concentrated iron and copper components are successfully recovered.
Product Features
High Separation Efficiency and Metal Recovery: The kiln creates a highly uniform thermal and chemical environment. This maximizes the conversion of weak-magnetic iron oxides into strong-magnetic iron, significantly increasing the efficiency of downstream magnetic separation and copper flotation processes.
Robust Resistance to Molten Slag Corrosion: Copper slag has a relatively low melting point and can become highly corrosive to equipment linings when heated. The interior of this kiln is constructed with specialized, high-density chrome-alumina or magnesia-chrome refractory materials that resist liquid slag penetration and chemical erosion.
Precise Atmosphere and Temperature Regulation: To ensure the reduction reaction occurs correctly without over-melting the slag into a sticky mass, the kiln features sophisticated burner controls and air-supply adjustments. Operators can finely tune the air-to-fuel ratio to maintain the exact reducing atmosphere required.
Heavy Duty and Wear Resistant Drive Train: Due to the high density of copper slag, the entire mechanical system is built for heavy-duty operation. It features forged alloy steel riding rings, heavy support rollers, and a high-torque variable frequency drive system capable of handling heavy starting and running loads.
Eco Friendly with Superior Sealing: Copper slag processing can generate sulfurous gases and fine dust. The kiln head and tail are fitted with advanced heavy-duty mechanical or scale seals to prevent gas leakage. When paired with secondary combustion chambers and scrubbing systems, the plant ensures safe, eco-friendly operation that complies with modern environmental standards.
