Physical and chemical properties:
Twain 60 is lemon to orange oily liquid or semi gel, with slight special odor and slightly bitter taste. Soluble in water, aniline, ethyl acetate, and toluene, insoluble in mineral oil and vegetable oil.
Production method:
(1) Add 330kg of emulsifier S-60 into the reaction kettle, heat and melt it, then stir and add a catalyst amount of sodium hydroxide solution. Vacuumize and dehydrate, replace the air in the kettle with nitrogen, raise the temperature to 140 ℃, and start passing 700kg of ethylene oxide. Control the reaction temperature at 160-180 ℃. After the proportion of ethylene oxide is reached, the feed solution is poured into a neutralization kettle, and the pH value is adjusted to around 2 with glacial acetic acid. Finally, an appropriate amount of hydrogen peroxide is used for decolorization, and the finished product is cooled and packaged.
(2) Under the catalysis of sodium methoxide (or sodium ethoxide) at 130-170 ℃, a certain amount of ethylene oxide is introduced into Span-60 to undergo an addition reaction to obtain the product.
(3) Put 1mol of Span 60 into the reaction kettle, heat and melt it, then stir and add a catalyst amount of sodium hydroxide solution. Vacuum and depressurize dehydration, after dehydration, replace the air in the kettle with nitrogen, raise the temperature to 140 ℃ and start introducing ethylene oxide for condensation reaction, maintaining the condensation temperature at 160-180 ℃. After adding ethylene oxide to the specified ratio and cooling, the discharge liquid is poured into a neutralization kettle and neutralized with glacial acetic acid until the acid value is around 2. Then, it is decolorized and dehydrated with hydrogen peroxide, and the finished product is packaged after discharge.
Application:
Emulsifiers, stabilizers (especially for frozen desserts, to avoid oil-water separation), dispersants (such as for non dairy coffee companions), maintaining moisture in bread and doughnuts, and foaming agents added to non-alcoholic beverages containing alcohol.
Due to the fact that Tween is an ester formed by sorbitol and different higher fatty acids, it is actually a series of products of the same type.
There are more than 20, 40, 60, and 80 types available in general fine chemical shops or chemical reagent companies, and they can be selected according to different needs. Tween 20, Tween 21, Tween 40, Tween 60, Tween 61, Tween 80, Tween 81, Tween 85; Tween-60 is a stearic acid ester; Tween-80 is oleic acid ester; Tween-20 is a mixture of polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate and a portion of polyoxyethylene bis sorbitan monolaurate.
