Shipbuilding Steel Plate
1. Basic Definition
Shipbuilding steel plate is hot rolled medium and heavy plate certified by major classification societies, specially used for ship hulls and offshore engineering structures. It complies with Chinese standard GB 712-2011 Structural Steels for Ships and Offshore Installations. Different from ordinary carbon steel, it features outstanding low-temperature toughness, weldability, seawater corrosion resistance and fatigue impact resistance.
Core Performance Requirements
Low-temperature impact toughness: Resist brittle fracture under low sea temperatures and ice collision, classified into 4 temperature grades: A/D/E/F.
Excellent weldability: Strictly controlled carbon equivalent to support mass hull welding.
High strength & ductility: Withstand alternating wave loads, hydrostatic pressure and grounding impact.
Marine corrosion resistance: Resist salt fog and seawater electrochemical corrosion.
Strict flaw detection: Ultrasonic testing before delivery to eliminate lamination and internal cracks.
2. Grade Classification (CCS China Classification Society System, Widely Used for Export)
(1) Normal Strength Ship Plate (Yield Strength ≥235MPa)
CCSA, CCSB, CCSD, CCSE
Grade A: Impact test at 0°C, for inland river & near-shore ordinary vessels
Grade B: Impact test at +20°C, for coastal bulk carriers and fishing boats
Grade D: Impact test at -20°C, for general ocean-going vessels
Grade E: Impact test at -40°C, for cold northern waters and large ocean-going ships
(2) High-Strength Ship Plate (Mainstream Export Grades)
| Strength Grade | Minimum Yield Strength | Low-Temperature Impact Grade | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grade 32 | ≥315MPa | AH32 (0℃), DH32 (-20℃), EH32 (-40℃) | Medium & small cargo ships, decks, bulkheads |
| Grade 36 | ≥355MPa | AH36, DH36, EH36 | Container ships, oil tankers, bulk carriers (most common grade) |
| Grade 40 | ≥390MPa | AH40, DH40, EH40, FH40 (-60℃) | Large container vessels, icebreakers, polar offshore platforms |
Code Explanation:
A/D/E/F: Impact test temperature 0℃ / -20℃ / -40℃ / -60℃
H: High Strength
Prefix CCS: Certified by China Classification Society; ABS, BV, DNV, LR and other international classification society certificates available for export.
