A0 Flat File Cabinet 5 Drawer Steel — Shipyard and Factory Blueprint Filing, Stackable Modular Unit
Product Spotlights
A0 Flat File Cabinet for Shipyards and Factories
A shipyard does not have space to waste. Every square meter of floor costs money. A factory maintenance department has to store machine drawings, electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and hydraulic layouts — sometimes for machines that were installed thirty years ago. The paperwork does not go away.
A flat file cabinet in a shipyard or factory environment has two jobs: hold as many drawings as possible per square meter of floor space, and survive.
This A0 flat file cabinet is a stackable modular unit. Buy one, use it. Buy another next quarter, stack it on top. Three units stacked is 15 drawers in a footprint of 1300 × 930 mm — less than 1.3 square meters of floor.

Why Stackable Matters in a Factory
In a drafting office, paper comes in at a trickle. In a shipyard or factory maintenance department, it comes in waves. A class survey requires the full set of structural drawings. A retrofit project generates 200 new sheets overnight. A machine manual arrives in three thick binders plus 50 A0 foldout diagrams.
Stackable means you do not commit to three cabinets on day one. You buy one for the current workload, and when the next project begins, you order another. The two units interlock mechanically — no bolts, no brackets, no tools. One drops onto the other and aligns. The central lock on the bottom unit still works independently; the top unit gets its own lock.
What Drawings a Shipyard Stores
A shipyard drawing set is not like an architectural set. It is heavier. Naval architects work on:
Hull lines plans — full-scale loft drawings, some running 2 meters in length, folded into A0 segments for storage
General arrangement plans — deck-by-deck layout, 6-10 sheets per vessel
Structural drawings — frames, bulkheads, stiffener layouts, each sheet annotated with weld specs
Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) — typically A0, color-coded on site, 20-40 sheets per system
Electrical one-line diagrams — A0, sometimes A1, stored flat because folding breaks the wire annotations
One vessel under construction generates 200-500 A0 drawings. A shipyard handling five vessels simultaneously has 1,000-2,500 active drawings. Three stacked cabinets hold 15 drawers. Each drawer holds ~100 flat sheets. Total: 1,500 sheets. That covers a medium yard's current projects.
What Drawings a Factory Stores
A factory does not build ships, but the cabinet problem is the same. A maintenance department with 50 CNC machines, 12 injection molding lines, and a water treatment plant stores:
Machine service manuals with A0 foldout schematics
Plant floor plans, updated every time a line moves
Electrical panels and switchgear diagrams
Air compressor, boiler, and chiller P&IDs
Previous retrofit documentation for audit purposes
These drawings are not decorative. The maintenance technician grabs them, takes them to the machine, compares the diagram to the physical wiring, and puts them back — sometimes with oily hands. The powder coated surface wipes clean with a rag.

Stacking: How It Works Mechanically
The top lip of each cabinet unit has a locating recess. The bottom of the unit above it has a matching protrusion. When one unit is placed on top of another, the protrusion drops into the recess, and the unit self-centers. No lateral movement — it will not slide off if someone leans on the cabinet.
Three units is the maximum recommended stack height. At 1,750 mm total, the top drawer is still accessible without a step stool for operators standing 170 cm or taller.
The anti-tip slides on every drawer are designed for stacked use. When a top-unit drawer is pulled to full extension and loaded to 150 kg, the cabinet stack does not tip forward. The slide stops lock the drawer open; push down slightly on the release tab and push the drawer back to close.
Factory Floor vs Clean Office
The same cabinet, two different worlds:
| Factory / Shipyard | Design Office | |
|---|---|---|
| Floor | Concrete, oil stains | Carpet or vinyl tile |
| Particles | Weld dust, metal filings, carbon | Paper dust |
| Cleaning | Rag wipe down weekly | Dry cloth, occasional |
| Access | Forklift nearby, narrow aisles | Walk-up, open floor |
| Stack height | 3 units (max out vertical) | 1-2 units (low profile) |
| Drawer load | Heavy — rolled as-builts on site | Light — individual sheets |
| Lock use | Locked at shift end | Locked at day end |
The powder coating does not care about either environment. The one thing to watch: a forklift fork can punch through a cabinet side if lifted too low. The cabinet should be placed, not driven into. After that, it stays where you put it — 80 kg empty, more when loaded, nobody is going to move it by accident.
Loading Order: How to Pack a Container
If you are ordering 1 unit, it ships in a single wooden crate, fully assembled. Lift off the crate, push the cabinet to the wall, start filing.
If you are ordering 20 units, they pack into a 20-foot container:
10 units on the bottom, each in a wooden crate, spaced to allow fork access
10 units on top, same configuration
Total: 20 units = 100 drawers = capacity for 10,000+ A0 sheets
If you are ordering 60 units into a 40-foot container:
20 units per layer, three layers, 60 units total
Container anchor points prevent shifting during transit
Custom packing options: if you want units pre-stacked in the container (2 units stacked per crate instead of 1), we can do that. It saves space but costs more in crate materials. Most buyers prefer 1 unit per crate — easier to unload at the destination.

Stacking Timeline: How Factories Buy
A pattern we see from repeat buyers:
Month 1 — Buy 2 units to file the current project backlog. Total: 10 drawers.
Month 4 — The archive is filling up. Buy 1 more unit, stack it on top of one. Total: 15 drawers, organized by ship hull number.
Month 10 — A new project starts. Buy 2 more units. Stack the second stack to 3 units. Total: 30 drawers, neatly sorted.
The cabinet design does not change from order to order. The unit you buy in month 10 stacks perfectly on the unit you bought in month 1 — same mechanical interlock, same dimensions, same color. This is not a product line that gets updated every year, it is a utility product. Consistency is the feature.
From the Factory
Luoyang, Henan. Sheet metal, welding, phosphating, powder coating, assembly — all under one roof.
For a shipyard or factory buyer:
Sample: 1 unit, 7-10 days, arrives in a wooden crate ready to use
Bulk: 20 units per 20-foot container, 15-20 days
OEM: Logo on cabinet side, color change from white, custom packing label — no minimum order surcharge on standard changes
Warranty: 1 year
Documents: Salt spray test ≥48 hours, factory inspection report, photos before shipment, packing list, commercial invoice
We do custom steel gauge for large orders. Standard is 0.8mm cabinet body with 1.0mm slide mounting plate. If your spec calls for 1.0mm throughout or a different color code matching your safety program, we can quote that.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I stack 4 units?
We recommend 3 units maximum. At 4 units, the top drawer height exceeds 2.3 meters and requires a step stool or ladder for safe access. The cabinet structure can handle the load, but the operator cannot. Three units at 1,750 mm is the practical maximum.
Q: Does the bottom unit support the weight of the units above it?
Yes. The cabinet frame distributes load to the base and the floor through four corners. The middle unit transfers load to the bottom unit through the interlock mechanism. The bottom drawers operate independently regardless of the load above.
Q: What if I buy unit 1 in white and unit 2 comes in a different shade?
The powder coating color code is locked to RAL 9016 white. Consistency is maintained across production batches. Custom colors are available but will match from batch to batch only if the RAL code is specified.
Q: How do I move a stacked cabinet?
Do not move it stacked. Unlock the top units, lift them off with a forklift (slings under the cabinet body, not the drawers), move the bottom unit, then restack. Trying to push a 3-unit stack across a factory floor with the casters is dangerous — 240 kg of steel on small wheels, on an imperfect floor.
Q: What kind of drawings can go in the drawer?
Any flat sheet up to A0/ANSI A. Paper originals, inkjet plots, blueprints on bond paper, CAD plots on vellum, mylar positives, photographic contact prints — all fine. The drawer does not care about the substrate. What the drawer does not handle well is loose sepia sheets that are already brittle; those should go in a folder first.
Q: Can the cabinet be placed near a machine that vibrates?
Yes. The anti-tip lock-open slide stops prevent a fully extended drawer from self-retracting due to floor vibration. In practice, if the floor vibration is strong enough to move an empty 80 kg cabinet, vibration is not the main problem in that factory.
Q: Do you offer a quantity discount?
Yes. Standard pricing tiers are 1-5 units (sample tier), 6-19 units (small batch), 20+ units (container tier). Send quantity and destination port for a quote.
Q: How do I start?
Email or WhatsApp: quantity, destination port, any OEM needs. Quote within 24 hours. Sample order if you want to inspect before bulk — 7-10 days to your door.
