H-beam Detailed Product Description

1. Product Definition and Overview

H-beam is a high-efficiency section steel with an H-shaped cross-section, consisting of upper and lower parallel flanges and a vertical web. Its inner and outer flange surfaces are parallel with right-angle ends, so it is also called wide-flange I-beam.

Executive Standards

Hot-rolled H-beam complies with GB/T 11263-2017; welded H-beam complies with YB/T 5307 or customized engineering standards.

2. Classification, Models and Specifications

2.1 Classification by Flange Width (National Standard Hot-rolled)

  • HW (Wide Flange H-beam): Height is approximately equal to flange width, mainly used for load-bearing columns and building frames, e.g. HW200×200×8×12.

  • HM (Medium Flange H-beam): Flange width is about half of the height, widely applied for general beams and columns, e.g. HM250×175×7×11.

  • HN (Narrow Flange H-beam): Flange width is less than half of the height, ideal for main beams and crane beams, e.g. HN300×150×6×9.

  • HT (Thin-walled H-beam): Suitable for light enclosure and secondary structures.

2.2 Classification by Production Process

  • Hot-rolled H-beam: Manufactured by high-temperature rolling of steel billets. It features good overall performance, high dimensional accuracy and uniform mechanical properties. Its specifications follow national standards, and it is commonly used for workshop columns, floor main beams and other heavy-duty structures.

  • Welded H-beam: Produced by cutting steel plates and adopting submerged arc welding. The dimensions are customizable with height ranging from 200mm to 3000mm. Strict welding quality control is required. It is applied to long-span bridges, super high-rise columns and components under special loads.

Code + Height (H) × Flange Width (B) × Web Thickness (d) × Flange Thickness (t), e.g. HW100×100×6×8.

4. Mechanical Properties (Typical for Q355B)

5. Application Scope

  1. Steel Structure Construction: Load-bearing columns of high-rise and super high-rise buildings, main frame beams of workshops, crane beams, roof and floor beams.

  2. Industry and Municipal Engineering: Equipment supports, pipe brackets, blast furnace frames, mine supports, long-span bridges and offshore platforms.

  3. Underground Engineering: Steel piles, foundation pit supports and tunnel bracings.

6. Production and Packaging

  • Length: Conventional length of hot-rolled products is 6m, 9m and 12m; welded products can be customized from 12m to 24m.

  • Surface Treatment: Raw steel, anti-rust paint coating, galvanization and shot blasting.

  • Packaging: Bundled, each bundle weighs 2 to 5 tons. Product ends are painted and labeled with specifications, material grade and batch number.

7. Quality Assurance

Complete material certificates, product quality certificates and non-destructive testing reports (UT/MT) are provided.

  • Dimensional tolerance: Height and width ±2mm, thickness ±0.5mm, length ±50mm.

  • Surface quality: Free from cracks, scabs, folds and excessive rust.
