A display cabinet in a salon or a jewelry shop works differently than one in a home.
At home, what's inside is mostly personal. Books, collectibles, things you want to see. Nobody is walking up to your living room cabinet and opening the door.
In a salon, that cabinet holds product that costs you money. In a jewelry shop, it holds merchandise worth more than most people's monthly rent. The door gets opened by staff, sometimes by customers who think it's okay to browse. And the one time something walks out of that cabinet, you realize the lock is not a nice-to-have.
We built this cabinet for those two places. Not for a living room. For a retail floor.
What a beauty salon display cabinet actually needs to hold
Walk into a salon and look at the product wall. You're not just seeing inventory. You're seeing a business layout that has to work at three levels.
The top of the display is for the stuff you want people to see but not touch. Gift sets, the expensive treatment line, the packaging that looks good on Instagram when clients take photos. Nobody buys those on impulse. If they want them, they'll ask.
The middle is where the action happens. Shampoos, conditioners, styling products that clients pick up on their way out. These are the items where "I'll ask you to open it" doesn't work — the client wants to grab it, pay, and leave. They spend most of their time eyeing this section, and the glass door lets them do that safely.
The bottom is for backstock. The extra bottles you're not displaying yet. Towels, cape clips, foils, gloves. The operational stuff that has to be in the same room but doesn't need to be on show.
A 78-inch cabinet with five or six adjustable shelves handles all three levels in one vertical column. The alternative — stacking three different units — wastes wall space and looks like you bought them at different times.
What jewelry stores care about that isn't the jewelry
Every jewelry store display has the same tension: you want customers to see everything, but you don't want them to touch everything.
Glass solves the "see" part. The lock solves the "touch" part.
But there's a second thing that jewelry stores care about that people outside the industry don't think about: the frame color.
A dark display cabinet next to jewelry creates a visual problem. The dark frame absorbs light. The light that should be bouncing back up to illuminate the rings and necklaces gets eaten by the furniture. Every jeweler spends heavily on in-case lighting. A dark cabinet frame wastes a percentage of that investment.
White reflects. A white steel frame around the glass bounces ambient and display light back onto the merchandise. The pieces inside look brighter without adding a single bulb. For a jewelry store operating on thin margins, that's not a design preference — it's a return on lighting investment.
We use cream white, RAL 9001. Not hospital white. Not beige. It's warm enough that it doesn't fight with warm-toned jewelry (gold, rose gold, warm stones) and neutral enough that it doesn't clash with cool lighting.
The lock: specific because it has to be
This cabinet uses a cylinder lock integrated into the steel frame. Not a latch, not a magnetic catch, not a hook-and-eye. A keyed lock.
The reason is simple: magnetic catches fail when they get dirty — which they will in a salon with airborne product. Hook-and-eye locks are easy to defeat by someone who knows how. A cylinder lock engaged with the steel frame is the standard that insurance underwriters expect.
One key per cabinet, though we can key multiple cabinets alike if you're running a row of them. The lock is at the edge of the door frame, visible from the side but not from the front. It doesn't interrupt the clean glass look.
Salon humidity vs. wood vs. steel
Salons have a specific problem that most furniture isn't designed for: high humidity mixed with airborne chemicals.
Shampoo stations produce steam. Hair treatment chemicals leave residue in the air. Air conditioning cycles create condensation. A wood cabinet in this environment doesn't fail all at once — it fails slowly. The seam where the back panel meets the side starts to swell. The finish at the base, closest to the floor, starts to lift where mopping sends moisture up the sides.
What happens is that a wood display cabinet in a salon looks acceptable for the first eight to ten months, and then, over the next three months, it visibly degrades. Not broken. Just... tired. Edges not sharp. Doors slightly out of alignment. You don't want to replace it, but you also don't want customers to notice.
Steel doesn't have this arc. Powder coat bonded to cold rolled steel doesn't swell, doesn't lift, doesn't lose alignment from moisture cycling. A steel cabinet in the same space looks the same at month 12 as it did at month one. Not "like new," just the same. Which, for a display cabinet, is what you're paying for.

FAQ
Q: Can you key all cabinets the same if I buy more than one?
Yes. Easier for retail floors where any staff member needs access to any case. We can master-key a batch at no extra cost — just specify when ordering.
Q: Is the lock pick-proof?
No display cabinet lock is pick-proof. This is a standard cylinder lock. It prevents opportunistic access. If someone wants into a display case badly enough with tools, they'll get in. That's true of any cabinet. What this lock does is prevent the casual grab — the one that happens because the case was unlocked.
Q: Does the glass hold up to daily opening and closing?
Yes. The hinges are mounted into the steel frame, not into particle board. Tempered glass doors are light enough that they don't stress the hinge plate. We've had units in field use for four years with no hinge or alignment failures reported.
Q: Can I stand it on carpet?
Yes. The base is a full steel frame, not four small feet. It distributes weight evenly. On carpet, it sits stable. On hard flooring, the base doesn't wobble.
Q: Do you sell this as a single unit or do I have to buy a pallet?
Single unit or full container. Minimum order is one. For salon owners buying one or two cabinets for their own shop, that's fine. For jewelry chains ordering 50, we ship KD flat and they assemble on-site.
This cabinet is designed for beauty salons where product security matters and for jewelry stores where every case needs to lock. White frame reflects light. Steel body handles salon conditions. Lock is cylinder-type on a steel frame.
