Why steel, not wood, for apartments
Apartments turn over. One tenant moves out, another moves in. Between tenants, the unit gets cleaned and sometimes touched up.
Wood cabinets rarely survive multiple turnovers. The veneer chips during a move. The laminate bubbles from a spilled drink. The doors warp after one humid summer. By the third tenant, the cabinet looks worn.
Cold-rolled steel doesn't have this cycle. The finish is powder coating, not veneer or laminate. A scratch doesn't peel. A spill wipes off. No warping, no swelling, no delamination. After three tenant rotations it still looks good.

Moisture performance
Apartments in humid climates face a specific problem. Bathrooms don't always have ventilation. Kitchens produce steam. Air conditioning units drip. Wood cabinets near any of these areas will show damage within months.
Steel is unaffected. Humidity at 90% is the same as humidity at 30%. The cabinet doesn't swell, the door doesn't stick, the shelves don't warp. No mold, no mildew, no rot.

Tempered glass door — what it means for an apartment tenant
The glass door does two things.
First, dust control. Open shelving collects dust. In a one-bedroom apartment, the living area and sleeping area are often the same room. Dust on bookshelves is visible from the bed. With a glass door, dust stays out. Wipe the glass once a week and the inside stays clean for months.
Second, security. Not against burglars — a glass door won't stop a determined thief. But against everyday forgetfulness. Tenant has visitors over. They put valuables in the cabinet and close the door. Curious hands don't reach inside. The tempered glass is 3C certified — if it breaks, it crumbles into small blunt fragments. No sharp edges, no injury risk.
The magnetic close
The door pulls itself shut in the last centimeter. No click, no slam.
In a small apartment, this removes a noise complaint. One person goes to bed early while the other is still awake. Closing a cabinet door with a magnet instead of a latch means no interruption. No waking the other person, no annoyed look across the room.
The handle is a brass-finished spherical metal knob. Solid, not plated plastic. Turns smoothly, doesn't loosen over time. Small detail, but every detail matters when someone lives with a piece of furniture every day.
The adjustable shelves — why they matter for apartment dwellers
Fixed shelves assume everyone has the same stuff. They don't.
One tenant collects vinyl records — 31cm tall, won't fit standard shelf spacing. Another has oversized coffee table books. Another stores folded jeans and sweaters on shelves instead of in a dresser.
Adjustable shelves accommodate all three. The peg holes run up the side panels. Lift the shelf, move the pegs, set it back down. No tools needed. The tenant can reconfigure the cabinet in two minutes to match their stuff.

Lighting — yes or no
Standard version has no light. Just steel and glass. Clean, simple, no cords to hide.
Optional LED strip is warm 3000K, installed at the factory. Adds a soft glow that makes the cabinet look more like furniture and less like a storage box. Good for apartments where the living room and kitchen are open plan — the lit cabinet becomes a visual anchor.
If you order the LED version, the power cord runs down the back corner. The cabinet goes against a wall, the cord is hidden behind it. If there's no wall outlet nearby, a thin extension cord along the baseboard solves it. Nothing that looks permanent.
Shipping and logistics for apartment projects
Apartment projects rarely order one cabinet. They order 50, 100, or more.
KD flat-pack makes this practical. A single 20ft container holds several hundred units in flat-pack form. The glass door is packed separately with foam and a wooden edge protector. The steel body is wrapped in moisture-proof film with corner guards.
Assembly takes about 15-20 minutes per unit with a screwdriver. One person can assemble one cabinet while unpacking the next. For large projects, a two-person team can handle 50-60 units in a day.

FAQ
Q: Does the cabinet come with mounting hardware? There are pre-drilled anti-tip holes on the back panel. You supply your own wall anchors — wall materials vary by country. For a freestanding cabinet of this size and weight, anchoring is recommended but not mandatory unless local regulations require it.
Q: Can I return unused units from a bulk order? For bulk orders, unused units within the original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Buyer covers return shipping. This applies to first-time orders only.
Q: Is the glass door removable for cleaning? The door is hinged and can be lifted off if needed. Remove the hinge pins, set the door aside, clean the interior, reinstall. Takes about a minute. Not something you'll do often, but useful if the cabinet needs a deep clean during turnover.
