Steel Wire & Straight Wire,Q195/Q215/Q235/35#/45#/50#/65#/70#/80#
Steel Wire Product Detailed Description
Steel wire is one of the four major steel products including plate, pipe, section and wire. It is made from hot-rolled wire rods through cold drawing, heat treatment and surface treatment. Most sections are round, as well as square, flat, Z-shaped and other special shapes, widely used in industry, construction, machinery, hardware and other fields.
1. Main Materials and Chemical Composition
Main materials: Low carbon steel (Q195/Q215/Q235), medium carbon steel (35#/45#/50#), high carbon steel (65#/70#/80#), alloy steel wire (containing Cr, Ni, Mo, etc.)
Typical chemical composition of carbon steel: Carbon 0.4%-1.0%, Manganese 0.3%-1.0%, Silicon 0.1%-0.3%, Phosphorus & Sulfur ≤0.045%
2. Product Classification (GB/T 341-2008)
1. Classified by Carbon Content
Low carbon steel wire (C≤0.25%): Soft and easy to process, used for binding wire, wire mesh, nail making and packaging
Medium carbon steel wire (C 0.25%-0.60%): Medium strength, applied for springs, mechanical parts and cold heading parts
High carbon steel wire (C≥0.60%): High strength and hardness, suitable for steel wire rope, springs, tire cord and strings
Alloy steel wire: Corrosion resistant, high temperature resistant and wear resistant, used for precision machinery, high-grade springs and industrial fittings
2. Classified by Diameter Specification (mm)
Extra fine: <0.1; Fine: 0.1-0.5; Medium fine: 0.5-1.5; Medium: 1.5-3.0; Thick: 3.0-6.0; Extra thick: 6.0-8.0; Super thick: >8.0
3. Classified by Tensile Strength (MPa)
Low strength: <390; Lower strength: 390-785; Normal strength: 785-1225; Higher strength: 1225-1960; High strength: 1960-3135; Ultra-high strength: >3135
4. Classified by Surface Treatment
Bright finish (U): No coating with original metal luster, for ordinary machinery and springs
Galvanized wire (Grade A/B): Hot-dip or electro-galvanized with good anti-corrosion performance, for construction, fence and steel wire rope
Copper/Nickel coated wire: Good conductivity and wear resistance, used for electric wires, hose reinforcement and tire cord
PVC/PE coated wire: Insulated, anti-corrosion and safe to use, for clothesline, protective net and garden use
5. Classified by Section Shape
Round wire: Most common type, diameter 0.1-10mm
Special-shaped wire: Square, rectangular, triangular, oval, flat, trapezoidal, Z-shaped, S-shaped, used for special springs, mechanical guide rails and sealing parts
3. Production Process
Raw material: Hot-rolled wire rod (φ5.5-14mm)
Pickling: Remove oxide scale to avoid scratches during drawing
Cold drawing: Multi-pass drawing to reach required diameter, improve strength and dimensional accuracy
Heat treatment
Annealing: Soften wire to improve ductility for low carbon steel wire
Patenting treatment: Endow high carbon steel wire with high strength and toughness for steel wire rope and springs
Quenching and tempering: Improve comprehensive mechanical properties for medium carbon and alloy steel wire
Surface treatment: Galvanizing, copper coating, plastic coating and polishing
Finished product: Regular coil packing, straight wire available on request
4. Key Performance Parameters
Diameter tolerance: ±0.01-±0.1mm as per specifications
Tensile strength: 300-3500MPa determined by material and production technology
Elongation: 5%-30%, low carbon wire has higher elongation while high carbon wire is lower
Bending & torsion times: Reflect wire toughness, high carbon steel wire meets standard torsion requirements
Coating weight: Grade A galvanized ≥250g/㎡, Grade B galvanized ≥150g/㎡
Corrosion resistance: Galvanized wire can pass salt spray test for more than 48 hours
5. Common Specifications and Applications
Low Carbon Steel Wire (Q195/Q235)
Specification: φ0.5-6.0mm, bright or galvanized
Usage: Construction binding wire, nail making, wire mesh, packing binding, hardware hangers and site fence
High Carbon Steel Wire (65#/70#/80#)
Specification: φ0.8-8.0mm, bright, galvanized or copper coated
Usage: Steel wire rope, industrial springs, auto parts springs, tire cord, hose reinforcement wire and musical instrument strings
Special-shaped Steel Wire
Specification: Flat wire (thickness 0.5-3.0mm, width 2-20mm), Z-shape, S-shape etc.
Usage: Various special-shaped springs, mechanical guide rails, sealing fittings and auto special parts
6. Execution Standards
GB/T 341-2008: Classification and terminology of steel wire
GB/T 3091-2015: General standard for galvanized steel wire
YB/T 5343-2015: Standard for steel wire for rope making
7. Packaging, Delivery and Transportation
Packaging: Coil weight 25-200kg per coil, straight wire length 1-6m with moisture-proof and rust-proof outer package
Delivery time: Goods can be delivered within 5-7 days
Storage & transportation: Store in dry and ventilated warehouse, keep away from rain, sunlight and acid-base substances, avoid surface damage during handling
