I. Brief introduction
In the treatment of hospital sewage, due to its relatively complex water quality, which contains various water pollutants, pathogenic microorganisms, infectious bacteria and viruses. Therefore, disinfection should be an important part in the treatment of hospital sewage. According to Article 36 of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution" (1984), sewage containing pathogens must be disinfected. According to the requirements of the "Discharge Standard of Hospital Sewage" (GBJ48 - 83) in the "Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard" GB8979 - 1996, after the hospital sewage is disinfected, the water quality should meet the following standards:
1. When taking 500mL samples for inspection three consecutive times, no intestinal pathogenic bacteria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis shall be detected.
2. The total coliform bacteria shall not be more than 500 per liter.

3. The available chlorine of chlorine dioxide is 2.63 times that of chlorine gas, and its sterilization effect is 5 times that of sodium hypochlorite. For example, when 2㎎/L of chlorine dioxide is added to hospital sewage and acts for 30 seconds, nearly 100% of microorganisms can be killed, and the residual chlorine dioxide is 0.9ppm. Under the same conditions, when 5㎎/L of chlorine gas is added and acts for 5 minutes, the sterilization rate is only 90%, and the residual rate is 2.25㎎/L. The effect of chlorine dioxide in killing Escherichia coli is not greatly affected even when the pH range of the medium changes significantly. For the medium containing Escherichia coli with a residual chlorine of less than 0.5㎎/L. When the pH is 6.5, both chlorine dioxide and chlorine gas can remove 99% of Escherichia coli within 60 seconds. But when the pH is 8, chlorine dioxide only takes 15 seconds, while chlorine gas takes 5 minutes to achieve the same effect.

4. Selection of chlorine dioxide generator
The sewage volume of a hospital depends on its water consumption. Generally speaking, the average water consumption per bed in a hospital is 1000L/d.
