Detailed Specification of Cast Pipe

Cast pipes, commonly known as cast iron pipes, are metal pipes manufactured by smelting molten iron and casting into finished products. They are mainly divided into grey cast iron pipes and ductile iron pipes. Widely applied in municipal water supply & drainage, gas transmission and industrial fluid conveying, they feature high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, long service life and easy installation.

1. Product Classification

1.1 Classification by Material

  1. Grey Cast Iron PipeWith flake graphite structure, it is brittle with poor toughness and easy to crack, offering ordinary corrosion resistance. Featuring low cost, it is mainly used for low-pressure drainage, building sewage and rainwater drainage, and is gradually replaced by ductile iron pipes.

  2. Ductile Iron Pipe (Mainstream Product)Spheroidizing agents are added into molten iron to form spherical graphite structure, combining the corrosion resistance of iron and toughness of steel. Its tensile strength is over 3 times that of grey cast iron. It resists foundation settlement, earthquake and corrosion, suitable for high-pressure water supply, gas pipeline, fire-fighting and deeply buried pipelines.

  3. High Silicon Cast Iron PipeWith silicon content of 14%~18%, it owns outstanding acid resistance, used for conveying strong acid and alkali medium in chemical and metallurgical industries.

1.2 Classification by Casting Technology

  1. Centrifugal Cast Pipe

  • Sand mould centrifugal casting: low cost, rough surface, for low-pressure water supply and drainage.

  • Metal mould centrifugal casting: fast cooling, compact structure, accurate dimension and high pressure resistance, applicable to high-pressure water supply and gas delivery.

  1. Continuous Cast PipeFormed by continuous drawing, it has high production efficiency, stable fixed length of 6m/9m, mainly used for small and medium-caliber low-pressure pipelines.

3. Production Process

  1. Melting: Smelt pig iron and scrap steel in electric furnace at 1500~1600℃, adjust chemical composition.

  2. Spheroidizing Treatment: Add spheroidizer and inoculant to optimize internal structure.

  3. Centrifugal Casting: Pour molten iron into high-speed rotating mould for uniform forming.

  4. Heat Treatment: Normalizing and tempering to eliminate internal stress and improve toughness.

  5. Finishing: Fixed-length cutting, socket machining, surface polishing, non-destructive testing and hydraulic pressure test.

  6. Anti-corrosion Painting: Internal and external coating treatment, finished product inspection and storage.

6. Installation and Maintenance Guidelines

  1. Inspect pipes, fittings and rubber rings for cracks, sand holes and damage before installation.

  2. Keep socket facing water flow direction, apply lubricant evenly and install rubber ring without distortion.

  3. Insert spigot steadily to the marked position, fix large-caliber pipes with buttress.

  4. Regularly check joint tightness and coating integrity, avoid heavy impact and rolling.
