Steel Wire Product Detailed Description

1. Product Overview

Steel Wire is one of the four major steel products (plate, pipe, section, wire). It is a linear product manufactured from hot-rolled wire rod through cold drawing, heat treatment and surface treatment processes.

2. Main Raw Materials

  • Carbon Steel: Carbon content 0.4%–1.0%, Manganese 0.3%–1.0%, Silicon 0.1%–0.3%, Phosphorus and Sulfur ≤ 0.045%.

  • Common Grades:

    • Low Carbon: Q235, SWRM6 (C ≤ 0.25%)

    • Medium Carbon: 45#, 55#, SWRH47A (C 0.25%–0.60%)

    • High Carbon: 60#, 70#, SWRH72A (C ≥ 0.60%)

3. Manufacturing Process

  1. Raw Material Pretreatment: Wire rod pickling → Phosphating/Saponification → Drying.

  2. Cold Drawing: Reduce diameter gradually to target size through cemented carbide dies at room temperature to enhance strength.

  3. Heat Treatment:

  • Annealing: Soft state, easy for processing (such as binding wire).

  • Patenting: Strengthen and toughen high-carbon steel wire (for springs, steel wire ropes).

  • Surface Treatment:

    • Bright Finish (U): No coating.

    • Hot-Dip Galvanized: Thick zinc coating (40–120 g/m²), excellent corrosion resistance.

    • Electro-Galvanized: Thin zinc coating (10–60 g/m²), bright surface.

    • Copper/Nickel Plated: Improve rubber adhesion and weldability.
