I. Product Definition
Flat Steel is a long strip of steel with a rectangular cross-section and blunt edges on all four sides, belonging to the section steel category.
Size Range: Width 12–300 mm, Thickness 3–60 mm.
Distinction: Width
Expression Method: Thickness × Width (mm), e.g., 5×40.
II. Main Materials and Grades
Carbon Structural Steel (Most Commonly Used)
Q235B: Moderate strength, good plasticity, low cost; used in construction, brackets, guardrails.
Q355B (Q345): Low-alloy high strength; used in bridges, machinery, load-bearing structures.
High-Quality Carbon Steel: 10#, 20#, 45#; used for precision parts requiring welding/heat treatment.
Alloy Structural Steel: 40Cr, 42CrMo; high strength, wear resistance; used for gears, shafts, heavy machinery.
III. Production Process and Characteristics
Hot-Rolled Flat Steel (Mainstream)
Process: Steel billet heating → high-temperature rolling → cooling and sizing.
Characteristics: Black surface, low cost, good plasticity, easy welding; relatively wide dimensional tolerance.
Implementation Standard: GB/T 704-1988 (Thickness 3–60 mm, Width 10–200 mm).
Cold-Drawn Flat Steel
Process: Hot-rolled billet → room-temperature drawing → finishing.
Characteristics: Smooth surface, high dimensional accuracy (width ±0.1 mm, thickness ±0.05 mm), slightly higher strength, slightly reduced toughness.
Application: Precision machinery, electronic brackets, hardware accessories.
Forged Flat Steel
Process: Heating and forging → dense structure.
Characteristics: High strength, good toughness; suitable for heavy parts with thickness > 50 mm.

Common Width (mm): 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150.

Fixed Length: 6 m, 12 m; can be customized according to requirements.
Theoretical Weight (kg/m)
Formula: Thickness (mm) × Width (mm) × 0.00785.
Example: 5×40 flat steel → 5×40×0.00785 = 1.57 kg/m.
V. Surface Treatment
Black Skin (Hot-Rolled Original Color): Lowest cost; used for internal structures and non-exposed parts.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing: Zinc layer ≥ 85 μm; strong rust resistance, outdoor service life ≥ 20 years; used for grounding, guardrails, brackets.
Electro-Galvanizing (Cold Galvanizing): Zinc layer 5–15 μm; aesthetic, used indoors; used for power distribution cabinets, indoor brackets.
Painting/Powder Coating: Anti-corrosion + decoration; color can be customized.
