FAQ – EN 10025-2 Structural Steel Tubes
Q1: What is EN 10025-2 used for?
A: EN 10025-2 structural steel tubes are used in construction, bridges, cranes, industrial machinery, offshore platforms, and general engineering applications requiring hot rolled non-alloy steel .
Q2: What is the difference between EN 10025-2 and EN 10216-2?
A: EN 10025-2 is for structural applications (construction, machinery) with focus on yield strength and weldability. EN 10216-2 is for pressure purposes (boilers, pressure vessels) with specified elevated temperature properties. EN 10025-2 is not intended for pressure equipment .
Q3: What does J0 and J2 mean in steel grades?
A: JR – impact tested at +20°C (room temperature). J0 – impact tested at 0°C. J2 – impact tested at -20°C. K2 – impact tested at -20°C with higher energy (40J). Use J2 or K2 for outdoor cold climate applications .
Q4: What is the most popular grade in EN 10025-2?
A: S355J2 – high strength (355 MPa yield) with impact toughness at -20°C – widely used for outdoor construction, bridges, and offshore structures .
Q5: Can EN 10025-2 tubes be welded?
A: Yes – excellent weldability. S235 and S275 can be welded without preheat. S355 may require preheat for thick sections depending on welding procedure .
Q6: What is the difference between S355JR, S355J0, and S355J2?
A: The suffixes indicate Charpy impact test temperature: JR – +20°C (indoor), J0 – 0°C (cold climate), J2 – -20°C (arctic/outdoor). Same mechanical properties, different low temperature toughness .
Q7: What is the maximum thickness for EN 10025-2?
A: Up to 250mm for flat and long products of all grades and qualities; up to 400mm for flat products of J2 and K2 qualities .
Q8: Is CE marking available for EN 10025-2 products?
A: Yes – EN 10025-2 is a harmonized standard under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). CE marking and Declaration of Performance (DoP) are available .
Q9: What is the difference between S355 and S235?
A: S355 has higher yield strength (355 MPa vs 235 MPa) – allows thinner sections for same load, reducing weight and cost for heavy structures .
Q10: Do you provide third-party inspection?
A: Yes. SGS, BV, TUV, or any customer-specified agency.
Q11: Do you offer free samples?
A: 30cm sample available for common grades. Shipping fee applies.
