Where "wet environment" actually matters

Coastal warehouses and workshops. Salt-laden air is relentless. It coats everything. Standard shelving corrodes in months — you see the pitting start at edges and weld points first, then spread. Coastal installations need shelving that doesn't just tolerate occasional moisture — it lives in it.

Why 304 is the only conversation worth having here
In a dry warehouse, 201 stainless steel is fine. In a wet environment — any of the three above — it's a gamble you'll eventually lose.
The difference is nickel content. 201 stainless steel runs 3-5% nickel. 304 runs 8% or higher. That three-to-five percent gap makes all the difference in the world when moisture is a constant.
304 forms a passive chromium oxide layer that actively resists corrosion. 201 tries, but the lower nickel content means that layer is thinner and more vulnerable to breakdown over time — especially in salt spray, chemical exposure, or constant washdown conditions.
We're not saying 201 is bad shelving. We're saying don't put it where it's set up to fail. Wet environments call for 304. It's that simple.
Anti-corrosion isn't just about the metal grade
The shelf grade matters. So does everything else.
Our shelves use double pressed-in reinforcement ribs — not tacked-on strips. Fewer weld points means fewer places for corrosion to start. The surface is brushed finish with no pits, no crevices where moisture can pool and sit.
The butterfly clip assembly system eliminates screws and bolts — which are corrosion magnets in wet environments. No exposed fasteners. No rust starting at screw holes and spreading outward.
Rubber feet keep the uprights off wet floors. Not a minor detail when the floor gets hosed down daily and never fully dries. The foot material is formulated to stay grippy when wet — not turn into a skating rink on damp concrete.

In washdown environments, go wider on width (600mm) and moderate on depth (1200–1500mm) — gives you easy access to shelves from both sides without reaching into a deep bay. In coastal warehouses, deeper bays (1800–2000mm) maximize storage density since you're not doing daily washdowns.
