Cold rolled stainless steel plate and hot rolled stainless steel plate
Cold rolling is a processing process carried out at room temperature, while hot rolling is a processing process carried out at high temperatures. Normally, the processing temperature of cold-rolled steel plates is at room temperature (usually 20 ºC), while hot rolling is the process of heating steel billets at high temperatures (usually above 1000 ºC) before processing.
Different material properties
Due to different processing temperatures, the properties of stainless steel sheets obtained from cold rolling and hot rolling also differ. Hot rolling processing can improve the ductility and plasticity of steel sheets, while cold rolling can achieve higher hardness and strength. This is also the reason why cold-rolled steel plates are widely used in industrial manufacturing, mechanical parts, shipbuilding, and chemical industries.
Different surface quality
The surface quality of hot rolling and cold rolling is also different. The surface of cold-rolled steel plate is relatively flat, without obvious oxide scale and rust, while hot-rolled steel plate will produce oxide scale and rust on the surface. Therefore, in some special occasions, hot-rolled steel plates require subsequent surface treatment to obtain good surface quality.
