In steelmaking production, using aluminum for deoxidation can effectively reduce the oxygen content and minimize the bubbles generated by the carbon-oxygen reaction. At the same time, it can refine the grain structure of the steel, thereby improving the impact toughness of the steel, reducing the tendency of cold brittleness and aging. Since the specific gravity of aluminum (2.7g/cm) is much smaller than that of molten steel (7.6g/cm3) and steel slag (about 3.59/cm3), and it is extremely easy to oxidize in air and steel slag. Especially when used for deoxidation in converter steelmaking, aluminum floats on the surface of the molten steel, resulting in large burning losses and low yield. Therefore, in actual production, deoxidizers containing aluminum are often used for deoxidation. They have the characteristics of easily penetrating the steel slag layer, having a high melting point of about 1280℃, being difficult to melt in the steel slag layer, and being able to reach the deep layer of the molten steel for melting and deoxidation. When used for the deoxidation and alloying of molten steel, its density is between that of molten steel and steel slag, which can effectively improve the utilization rate of aluminum. In addition to the low carbon content playing a good role in inhibiting the carburization of molten steel, aluminum cakes are convenient for storage and can be added with a hopper, which not only simplifies the deoxidation and alloying process of molten steel but also reduces the labor intensity of workers.

Adding round aluminum cakes for deoxidation belongs to precipitation deoxidation. During precipitation deoxidation, the aluminum alloy is directly added to the molten steel to remove oxygen from the molten steel. This deoxidation method has relatively high deoxidation efficiency, short time consumption, and less alloy consumption.
