The core principle of the 32.768K crystal oscillator is based on the piezoelectric effect of the quartz crystal. When an electric field is applied, the quartz crystal generates mechanical vibration, and vice versa. This two-way conversion enables the crystal to oscillate stably at a specific frequency.‌

Its frequency is determined by the cutting direction and size of the crystal. The 32.768kHz crystal oscillator usually adopts a tuning fork structure, and low-frequency oscillation is achieved through the vibration of the fork teeth.‌

 This frequency value is exactly 2 to the 15th power (32768Hz). After 15 times of frequency division by two, a 1Hz second pulse signal can be accurately generated. Therefore, it is widely used in timing devices such as clocks and real-time clocks (RTC).
