EU REACH Annex XVII Testing
EU REACH Annex XVII Testing
EU REACH Annex XVII is a crucial component of the REACH Regulation, outlining restrictions on the manufacture, placement on the market, and use of certain hazardous substances, preparations, and articles. REACH Annex XVII testing primarily focuses on the potential impacts of chemical substances on human health and the environment. Specific testing items include, but are not limited to, the following:
I. Identification and Classification of Chemical Substances
Physical and Chemical Properties Testing: Testing the physical and chemical properties of substances, such as melting point, boiling point, solubility, and stability, to determine their fundamental properties.
Classification: Based on test results, chemical substances are classified into different risk categories, such as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC), Persistent, Bioaccumulative, and Toxic (PBT) substances.
II. Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Preparing SDSs: Including information on the physical and chemical properties of substances, toxicity, routes of exposure, health effects, and environmental impacts to provide comprehensive safety guidance.
III. Labeling and Packaging Requirements
Assessing Labeling and Packaging: Ensuring that chemical labeling and packaging comply with REACH regulations to warn users and consumers of potential risks. IV. Compliance Assessment and Testing
Compliance Assessment: Assessing the potential impact of chemicals on human health and the environment during their production, use, and disposal, and determining whether they comply with the requirements of the REACH Regulation.
Compliance Testing: Including chemical analysis conducted in a laboratory to verify whether the substance contains any ingredients restricted or prohibited under REACH Annex 17.
V. Restrictions on Specific Chemicals
REACH Annex 17 lists a variety of restricted or prohibited chemical substances, including but not limited to:
Prohibited Substances: Such as diazine, alum, etc. These substances are explicitly prohibited under the REACH Regulation because they are harmful to human health or the environment.
Restricted Substances: Such as benzo[a]pyrene, polychlorinated biphenyls, etc. These substances are restricted under specific conditions to protect human health and the environment.
Substances Subject to Specific Conditions of Use: Such as triphenylhydroamine, whose use is subject to specific conditions, such as restrictions on the duration, amount, or scope of use.
VI. Ecotoxicology Testing
Environmental Impact Testing: Assessing the impact of a substance on aquatic and terrestrial organisms, including fish, invertebrates, algae, and plants, to determine its potential environmental hazards.
VII. Exposure Testing
Exposure Assessment: Testing the extent of human and environmental exposure to a substance, such as through inhalation, ingestion, and skin contact, to assess potential health risks.
