The MICROTEMP series thermal fuses produced by Therm-O-Disc, a company under Emerson, are globally recognized overheat protection components. Among them, the TF158C model, as a classic product in this series, has become an indispensable safety guard in various electrical equipment with its excellent reliability and precise disconnection action. It uses a one-time fusing mechanism. When the internal temperature of the equipment rises to a predetermined threshold due to a fault, the fuse will permanently disconnect the circuit, thereby preventing the occurrence of fire or equipment damage accidents.

Core Technology and Working Principle

The effective triggering mechanism of the MICROTEMP thermal fuse is a non-conductive thermal pellet made of a unique formula. At normal operating temperatures, the solid thermal pellet holds against the spring, keeping the contacts in contact and the circuit unobstructed; when the predetermined disconnection temperature (Tf) is reached, the thermal pellet will quickly melt, causing the compression spring to be released, which in turn pushes the contacts apart, permanently cutting off the circuit. Once activated, the thermal fuse needs to be replaced, and the root cause of the overheating must be eliminated before replacement.

Detailed Electrical Parameters and Physical Specifications

Rated electrical parameters: A typical G4 series thermal fuse has a rated continuous operating current of 10A @ 250VAC or 15A @ 120VAC.

Disconnection temperature: The disconnection temperature (Tf) of the TF158C has a standard tolerance, usually +0℃, -5℃, ensuring the accuracy of protection.

Physical dimensions: The total length of the standard leads of the G4 series is approximately 63.8mm, the outer diameter of the housing is approximately 4.0mm, and the length of the housing is approximately 14.7mm, which is convenient for installation in various equipment.

Lead material: A combination of tinned copper wire and silver-plated copper wire is used to ensure good conductivity and corrosion resistance.

Main Application Areas

The MICROTEMP TF158C thermal fuse is used in a variety of scenarios that require overheat protection due to its wide applicability:

Household appliances: Rice cookers, electric kettles, electric heaters, hair dryers, etc.

Office equipment: Copiers, printers, computer power supplies.

Industrial equipment: Transformers, small motors, power adapters.

Personal care and health products: It provides the last line of overheat protection for thermostats.

Comparison of Series Products and Selection Guide

The Emerson MICROTEMP series offers a variety of models to meet different needs. Understanding them helps in correct selection:

G4 series: An industry standard with a rated current of 10A/250VAC and the most widely used.

G5 series: Designed for higher currents, with a rated current of up to 16A - 20A/250VAC.

G7 series: It is small in size, about 1/3 of the G4, suitable for occasions with limited space, and has a rated current of 5A/250VAC. Series: Specifically designed for high-power devices, with a rated current of up to 25A/250VAC.

When making a selection, please pay particular attention to the normal operating current, voltage of your device, and the required rated disconnection temperature.

Certifications and Safety Standards

Emerson thermal fuses, including the TF158C model, have passed multiple international safety certifications, such as the US UL certification, Canadian CSA certification, Japanese METI certification, etc. This ensures their safety and reliability on a global scale and makes them a leader in the industry.
