18Ni300 die steel is a maraging steel, belonging to the category of ultra-high strength steel. The "300" in its name represents its yield strength level of approximately 300 ksi (about 2000 MPa). This steel achieves its ultra-high strength and hardness through aging treatment at specific temperatures, which causes intermetallic compounds to precipitate.

Ni18 type maraging steel is an ultra-high strength steel, a series of multi-element alloys containing small amounts of Ti and Al in an iron-nickel-cobalt-molybdenum alloy composition. C, Si, Mn, P, and S are considered residual elements and their contents are limited. It is mainly used in the aerospace industry. Due to its excellent mechanical and processing properties, it is also used for important parts in plastic molds and die-casting molds. It is expensive.

This series of steels is known in the United States as 18Ni200, 18Ni250, 18Ni300, and 18Ni350, with the numbers after the elements representing yield strength/kSi.

This series of steels has good hot working and weldability, requiring post-weld heat treatment.

Maraging steel has been widely used in rocket engine casings, missile casings, shafts, gears, bearings, high-pressure sensors, fasteners, springs, aluminum alloy extrusion dies and casting molds, precision molds, cold stamping dies, etc.
