German Covestro PC 6555 (flame-retardant Grade PC)
PC polycarbonate is a relatively new type of thermoplastic material, with a transparency of over 90% of its own. It is not only rigid and has good toughness, but also has very high impact strength and dimensional stability. It is called a transparent metal material. PC and its various modified alloy materials can be used as various racks, casings, printer components, charging equipment, etc,
Optical characteristics. Its transmittance is around 90%, close to glass but lighter than glass, not fragile, and easy to process. Some people may think this is the so-called 'organic glass', but it's not true! The scientific name of the organic glass we are referring to is "polymethyl methacrylate". Although organic glass is also a transparent material and even has superior optical properties compared to polycarbonate, its mechanical and heat resistance properties are much different from polycarbonate, and it is not fireproof. So in terms of overall performance, polycarbonate is more comprehensive and has a wider range of applications.
Mechanical properties. Polycarbonate is an organic combination of rigidity and toughness. Generally speaking, if a material has good rigidity, it will be very brittle and will break when dropped on the ground. But although polycarbonate has good rigidity and is difficult to bend, its toughness is also quite good. Products made from it are not easily broken even if heavy objects fall on them from a high place.
Compared to other plastics, polycarbonate has excellent flame retardancy. Pure polycarbonate can pass a certain level of fire resistance testing without adding any flame retardants. If supplemented with a small amount of flame retardant, polycarbonate can achieve the highest level of fire protection standards without losing its excellent optical and mechanical properties, which other plastic products cannot achieve.
High temperature resistance. As the temperature increases, all plastics will become soft at a certain temperature, thereby losing their practical value. This temperature value is the higher usage temperature of the plastic. It can be imagined that the higher the temperature value, the wider the range of plastic usage. The higher operating temperature of polycarbonate can reach 120 to 130 degrees. About a decade ago, the so-called "space cup" was popular, transparent and lightweight, made of polycarbonate as the raw material.
In addition to the four main characteristics mentioned above, polycarbonate also has other excellent properties, such as electrical properties, dimensional stability, and so on,
