I. Product Overview

Rockwell Automation 1746-IB32 is a 16-point digital input module in the SLC 500 series, which assumes the important responsibility of collecting on-site digital signals in industrial automation control systems. It is widely used in scenarios such as manufacturing production lines, mechanical processing equipment, and warehousing and logistics systems. It can accurately transmit switching signals from on-site devices such as buttons, limit switches, and proximity sensors to the CPU module of the PLC, providing original data for the system's logical control and status monitoring. It is a key bridge connecting on-site devices and the control system.

II. Functional Features

Multi-channel signal acquisition: It has 16 independent digital input channels and can collect 16 channels of on-site digital signals at the same time. This feature enables it to meet the needs of small and medium-sized automation systems for monitoring the status of multiple devices without the need for additional modules, reducing the complexity and cost of the system.

Reliable signal processing: It has good signal processing capability and can shape and filter the input switching signals. It effectively suppresses signal interference caused by factors such as electromagnetic interference and voltage fluctuations in industrial sites, ensures that the collected signals are accurate and reliable, and avoids system misoperation due to false signals.

Flexible voltage adaptation: It supports multiple DC input voltages, usually adapting to input signals of 10-30V DC, and is compatible with common sensor and switching power supply voltage standards in industrial sites, improving the versatility and flexibility of the module in different application scenarios.

Convenient installation and wiring: It adopts the standard installation method of the SLC 500 series, which can be easily installed on the rack of this series to work with other modules. The terminal blocks adopt a plug-in design, which is convenient for on-site wiring operations and later maintenance, reducing the time cost of installation and commissioning.

Clear status indication: The module is equipped with 16 LED indicators corresponding to the input channels. When a signal is input to a certain channel, the corresponding indicator light is on, allowing operators to intuitively observe the working status of each channel, facilitating quick judgment of whether the signal is input normally, and simplifying the fault Investigation process.

Good compatibility: As a standard module of the SLC 500 series, it has excellent compatibility with the racks, power modules and CPU modules of this series, and can be seamlessly integrated into the SLC 500 system, ensuring stable operation of the system, and also providing convenience for system expansion and upgrading.

III. Technical Parameters

Input parameters:
Number of input points: 16 points, which can collect 16 channels of digital signals at the same time.
Input type: DC digital input, receiving switching signals from on-site equipment.
Input voltage range: 10-30V DC, adapting to most DC power supplies in industrial sites.
Input current: The typical value per channel is 7mA (at 24V DC), ensuring little impact on the load of on-site equipment.
ON/OFF voltage threshold: ON voltage is usually ≥10V DC, OFF voltage is usually ≤5V DC, ensuring accurate identification of signals.
Response time: Generally 1ms, which can quickly respond to changes in on-site signals and meet the system's requirements for real-time performance.

Physical parameters:
Dimensions: Length is about 160mm, width is about 100mm, height is about 150mm (compatible with other modules in the SLC 500 series), which is convenient for installation in standard racks.
Weight: About 0.5kg, light in weight and easy to install.

Environmental parameters:
Operating temperature: 0°C-60°C, which can work stably in the common temperature environment of industrial sites.
Relative humidity: 5%-95% (non-condensing), with certain moisture resistance, adapting to humid industrial environments.
Anti-vibration performance: 10-55Hz, amplitude 0.38mm, can maintain stable operation in vibration environments.
Impact resistance: Peak acceleration 15g (duration 11ms), can withstand shocks during transportation and installation.

IV. Working Principle

Signal access: The 16 input channels of 1746-IB32 are respectively connected to on-site devices such as buttons, limit switches, and proximity sensors through terminal blocks. When on-site devices act (such as a button being pressed, a sensor detecting an object), corresponding switching signals (high level or low level) will be generated and transmitted to the corresponding input channel.

Signal conditioning: The input signal first passes through the signal conditioning circuit inside the module. This circuit shapes the signal, converting irregular signals into standard rectangular waves; at the same time, it performs filtering processing to remove high-frequency noise and interference in the signal, ensuring the stability and accuracy of the signal.

Signal conversion and transmission: The conditioned digital signal is converted into a logic signal recognizable by the PLC system (usually "1" or "0", corresponding to the ON and OFF states of the signal respectively). These logic signals are transmitted to the CPU module through the backplane bus of the SLC 500 series.

Status indication and system response: The LED indicators on the module will light up or go off synchronously according to the signal status of each channel, reflecting the input signal in real time. After receiving these logic signals, the CPU module performs logical operations and judgments according to the preset control program, and then issues corresponding control instructions to realize automatic control of on-site equipment. For example, after the signal of the limit switch is collected, the CPU may control the equipment to stop running according to the program to prevent the equipment from running beyond the limit.
