GE  UR6CH  digital input/output module

UR6CH (3)

The GE UR6CH module is a digital input/output module within the UR series universal relays manufactured by GE Multilin. The detailed introduction is as follows:

Functional CharacteristicsCommunication Functions

It can communicate and transfer data with GE's digital control systems, supporting communication protocols such as Modbus and Ethernet to enable connection with other devices or systems.

Data Acquisition and Control

It reads data from connected devices or sensors and transmits them to GE's digital control systems. It can also receive instructions from the systems, communicate with control devices like actuators, and execute corresponding control and adjustment operations.

Digital I/O Functions

  • It has 8 Type C outputs with Single-Pole Double-Throw (SPDT) contacts, each featuring a common point connected to a Normally Closed (NC) contact and a Normally Open (NO) contact. It can switch between the two output states, used to control and monitor auxiliary devices within the protection application scope of universal Multilin relays for specific applications.

Design Features

  • Adopts a modular design for easy installation, maintenance, and replacement. It can be seamlessly added to existing automation systems to meet the demand for digital input/output channels.

Environmental Adaptability

  • Equipped with excellent electrical and environmental protection capabilities, it can operate normally within a wide temperature range of -40°C to +100°C, demonstrating strong resistance to high and low temperatures.

Input Functions

The UR6CH module typically has multiple digital input channels, usually 6. These input channels receive digital signals from external devices such as sensors and switches, transmit them to GE's digital control systems for further processing and analysis, and process signals at a high data transmission rate of up to 1 Mbps to enable real-time monitoring of various parameters and statuses in industrial processes.

Output Functions

The module provides 8 Type C digital outputs. Type C digital outputs are SPDT contacts with a common point connected to an NC and an NO contact. It can switch between these two output states, commonly used to control the on/off status of external devices such as actuators and indicator lights, converting digital signals within the system into operations executable by external devices. Each output channel typically provides a 24V DC power supply with a current of up to 500mA to drive external devices.

Signal Isolation

The module uses isolation technology internally to protect input and output signals from external interference, improving signal stability and reliability, and ensuring accurate transmission and processing of digital signals in complex industrial environments.

Communication Compatibility

The module is compatible with multiple communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet, Modbus, and Profibus), facilitating connection and data interaction with other devices or systems. It can be easily integrated into existing automation systems to achieve broader control and monitoring functions.

Customizability

Users can flexibly configure and adjust the module through programming, customizing the functions and parameters of inputs/outputs according to specific application requirements to implement personalized control logic, enhancing the module's flexibility and applicability.

Application ScenariosPower Systems

  • Power Generation: Monitors various status signals of generators (e.g., speed, temperature) and controls auxiliary devices such as cooling and lubrication systems.

  • Power Transmission and Distribution: Monitors and controls the switch status in substations, realizes functions like rapid fault removal and automatic line reclosing, monitors parameters such as current and voltage of transmission lines to provide signal inputs for relay protection devices, and participates in metering and control of distribution systems to monitor and regulate power loads.

Oil and Gas Industry

  • Monitors the operating status of oil and gas extraction equipment (e.g., start/stop status and fault signals of pumps and compressors) and controls equipment operation based on monitoring results to ensure stable production processes.

  • During oil and gas transportation, it collects data on parameters such as pipeline pressure and flow while controlling valve switching to achieve precise control of oil and gas transportation.

Water Treatment Industry

  • Sewage Treatment Plants: Monitors the operating status of sewage treatment equipment (e.g., aeration and sludge treatment equipment), controls the start/stop of dosing devices and the dosing amount based on water quality monitoring data, and realizes automated control of the sewage treatment process.

  • Waterworks: Monitors and controls water intake, purification, and water supply equipment to ensure the quality and stability of water supply.

Industrial Automation Production Lines

  • Receives signals from various sensors on the production line (e.g., position sensors, photoelectric sensors), determines the position and status of workpieces, and then controls the actions of robotic arms, conveyors, and other equipment to achieve automated and precise control of the production process, improving production efficiency and product quality.

Robot Control

  • As part of the robot control system, it receives instructions from the robot controller to control the movement of robot joints and the actions of end effectors, while feeding back the status signals of each part of the robot to the controller to achieve precise control and real-time monitoring of the robot, ensuring it accurately performs tasks in various industrial scenarios.
