Working Principle
  • Parameter Monitoring:Real-time monitoring of electrical parameters such as current and voltage in low-voltage circuits is achieved through internal measurement circuits and sensors. For example, current transformers are used to measure current, and voltage division circuits monitor voltage, converting actual current and voltage values into electrical signals processable by the relay.

  • Signal Processing and Judgment:Monitored electrical signals are transmitted to the relay's control unit, which typically includes a microprocessor or logic circuit. The control unit compares the received signals with preset thresholds to determine whether abnormalities exist in the circuit. For instance, when the monitored voltage is lower than the undervoltage protection setting or the current exceeds the overload protection threshold, the control unit identifies a fault and triggers corresponding protection actions.

  • Control and Execution:Once the control unit determines an abnormality in the circuit, it sends control signals to the actuator, usually the relay's contact system. The contacts act accordingly, such as opening the circuit to cut off the power supply to the faulty part, protecting equipment in the circuit from damage caused by overload, undervoltage, short-circuit, etc.

  • Communication and Remote Monitoring (if applicable):The relay may be equipped with communication interfaces to connect with upper-level computers or other control systems. Through the communication interface, the relay can transmit its working status, fault information, and other data to the upper-level computer for remote monitoring and management. It can also receive commands from the upper-level computer, such as remotely setting protection parameters and controlling the relay's on/off.

Common Faults and Solutions
  • Relay Fails to Pull In
    • Causes:Possible pin corrosion, coil open circuit, or insufficient coil voltage.

    • Solutions:Check pin corrosion, clean if necessary, and replace the relay if severe corrosion occurs; use a multimeter to check coil continuity, repair or replace the relay if an open circuit is found; verify that the coil voltage reaches the relay's rated operating voltage and provide sufficient voltage if insufficient.

  • Relay Pulls In but Cannot Release
    • Causes:Typically due to contact adhesion, excessive coil voltage, or power supply voltage issues.

    • Solutions:Check for contact adhesion, attempt to clean the contacts, and replace the relay if unrecoverable; verify that the coil voltage does not exceed the rated voltage and provide appropriate voltage if it does; check power supply voltage stability and use a voltage stabilizer or other power conditioning equipment if unstable.

  • Unstable Relay Operation
    • Causes:Possible loose connections, stray electromagnetic field interference, or relay aging.

    • Solutions:Check and secure relay connections to ensure tight fittings; keep the relay away from potential electromagnetic interference sources (e.g., high-electromagnetic-field cables, motors), and use shielded cables or EMI filters to reduce interference; consider replacing the relay if it has been in use for an extended period.

  • Relay Noise
    • Causes:May be caused by electromagnet resonance, unreasonable structural design, or large power supply voltage fluctuations.

    • Solutions:Check the firmness of the installation structure and readjust the electromagnet position; use sound-absorbing pads or other soundproof materials to reduce noise propagation; consider using specially designed silent relays based on actual conditions; check power supply voltage stability and avoid fluctuations.

  • Relay Contact Faults
    • Causes:During opening and closing, relay contacts may experience oxidation, ablation, bending, etc., leading to poor closure or incomplete isolation.

    • Solutions:Use contact materials with high resistance and wear resistance, and pay attention to contact cleaning and maintaining good mechanical conditions.
