DESCRIPTION
Synthetic cryolite is a white crystalline powder made from hydrofluoric acid, sodium carbonate, and aluminum. It is primarily used as a flux in the electrolytic production of aluminum due to its ability to lower the melting point of alumina. Additionally, synthetic cryolite finds applications in the glass and enamel industries, as a filler in bonded abrasives, in the production of sodium and aluminum salts, porcelaneous glass, and insecticides. As a fruit and vegetable insecticide, cryolite is relatively safe. The fluoride ion inhibits enzymes containing iron, calcium, and magnesium.

APPLICATION
It is primarily used as a flux for aluminum electrolysis. Additionally, it serves as a wear-resistant additive for abrasives like resin wheels and abrasive cloths, and as a flux for welding consumables such as welding rods, wires, and fluxes. It also enhances resistance in friction materials like friction plates and brake pads. Its applications extend to grinding additives, fluxes for ferroalloys and boiling steels, non-ferrous metal fluxes including refining agents and slag removers, deoxidizers, enamel emulsifiers, glass opacifiers, ceramic glaze fillers, pesticides, insecticides, fireworks, firecrackers, explosives, smoking products, and refractories.
