Due to its inertia, the spheres in the tank impact the sample with high energy on the smooth inner wall of the grinding tank and thereby pulverize the sample. The rotation of the milling jar combined with the movement of the milling balls produces intensive mixing of the sample. Mixing can be improved even further by using multiple spheres.
