1) The pore structure of ACF and GAC is very different, as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2. The pore distribution of ACF is basically mono-dispersed, mainly composed of micropores less than 2.0nm, and the pore mouth is directly opened on the surface of the fiber. The diffusion path of the adsorbent to the adsorption site is short, and the fiber diameter is fine, so the contact area with the adsorbed substance is large, increasing the adsorption probability, and the contact can be uniform.
2) Large specific surface area, up to 2500㎡/g, about 5-100 times of GAC; Large adsorption capacity, about 1.5~100 times of GAC; Adsorption capacity of GAC is more than 400 times; The adsorption and desorption speed is fast, and the adsorption number of ACF to gas can reach equilibrium in 10 seconds to several minutes. 3) The pore size distribution range is narrow, most of the pore size is below 10Angstrom (1 Angstrom =1×10-10 m). The internal structure of GAC is divided into micropores, transiting pores and macropores, while the structure of ACF has only micropores and a small number of transition pores, and no macropores, and the pore size is uniform and the distribution is relatively narrow. It is 0.1~1nm, which is the reason for the good adsorption selectivity of ACF. 4) ACF not only has obvious adsorption capacity for high concentration adsorbent, but also has excellent adsorption capacity for low concentration adsorbent. For example, when the content of toluene gas is lower than 10ppm (1ppm = 1× 10-6, the same below), ACF can also adsorb toluene, while GAC must be higher than 100ppm.
5) Heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance; It has strong REDOX properties and can reduce the high-valence gold ions to the low-valence state. 6) Small volume density, small filter resistance, about 1/3 of GAC. It can adsorb the liquid substance with larger viscosity, and the power loss is small.
