Character: White to light yellow powder. An enzyme that can hydrolyze peptides, amides, and esters. Its molecule is composed of folded peptide bonds with 212 residues. Slightly hygroscopic. Sensitive to light. Incomplete solubility in water and glycerol, almost insoluble in most organic solvents. Enzyme reaction: cleavage of Arg -, Lys -, Phe -, X amino acids. The model substrate is benzoyl arginine ethyl ester (BAEE), N-benzoyl L-arginine p-nitroaniline (N- α- Bz-L-Arg-4-NA), benzyloxycarbonyl valeryl glycylarginine p-nitroaniline (Chromozym TRY). Activators include cysteine (Cys), glutathione (GSH), EDTA, reducing agents, and cyanide. Inhibitors include mercury (Hg2+), other heavy metals, iodoacetic acid, N-para maleimide (NEM), benzylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF), N-para toluenesulfonyl-L-phenylalanine chloromethyl ketone (TPCK), and p-toluenesulfonyl-L-lysine chloromethyl ketone (TLCK)
