Normally, resin base plate can only support LED less than 0.5W, metal or ceramic base plate is the option for LED higher than 0.5W. Metal's limit of high CTE is apparent, and ceramic is brittle and hard to build into shapes. AlSiC becomes the ideal material to build LED substrate. The matched coefficient of thermal expansion, good heat dissipation capability and stiffness of AlSiC make itself the number one choice for high power LED.
Hint:
Three to four different types of molds are needed to complete one manufacturing process of AlSiC, so when design substrate for LED package, please always remember the parts are cast made in high temperature, do not make them too complicated and do not place high requirements on dimension precision, this will save you a lot.
When make AlSiC in extreme large quantity, it will not cost you too much than copper.
