Eroded, unstable road verges present a considerable risk to road users. Inexperienced drivers, heavy goods vehicles and motorbike riders are particularly at risk. The disturbing statistics of accidents caused by evasive manoeuvres on badly maintained roadsides are only too clear.
The dangers are as great around bends as they are on straight stretches.
To avoid continuous deterioration i.e. pot-holes and ruts alongside the road, it is vital to stabilise these areas according to their usage. The building and maintaining of roadsides is often done in a traditional, costly and time-consuming way. This is no longer necessary!
By using the flexible bonding system of Geocells together with appropriate backfill, the vertical forces are converted into horizontal forces resulting in a highly stable system.
This horizontal weight distribution minimizes the weight impact on the lower stratum thus obviating the need for a traditional foundation. This transition of force is not possible with static systems for example grass blocks.
