JN BA-3143 Emulsion Containing Hollow Spherical Particles
v Functional characteristics
JN BA-3143 is a styrene acrylic copolymer emulsion. This product is the result of unique emulsion polymerization process. Its monodisperse spherical particle structure greatly reduces the usage amount of emulsion in coating formulation when compared with common pigments. Besides, the product can be used to replace part of the titanium dioxide white powder in the production of waterborne coating, hence reducing the cost of raw material in the coating formulations. Furthermore, It is an opaque polymer and effectively scatters the light, thereby enhancing the paint opacity and stain resistance of the coating. Meanwhile, it is applicable to coatings of wide Pigment Volume Concentration (PVC) range, hence improving the stability and color development of coatings.
When used in preparation of converted paper coating, the product can improve whiteness, opacity, glossiness and bulkiness of papers, ensuring higher fidelity and dimensional beauty in printing. Besides, the temperature and pressure of calender can be substantially reduced. Furthermore, the large refractive index difference between the polymer and the air endows the emulsion containing hollow spherical particles with excellent hiding power. Therefore, the product is especially suitable for the coating of low weight coated papers.

v Uses of the product
Function of opaque polymer: Briefly, opaque polymer is a biphasic system that consists of a great number of scattered “hollow particles” floating in water,. When the opaque polymer coating is dried, water will gradually come out of the “hollow particles” that will then be completely refilled by air, which results in light scattering, hence greater hiding power of the coating.
In order to achieve the best performance of this product, it is necessary to adjust the usage amount of JN BA-3143 in the coating formulation in accordance with the characteristics of the pigment and filler. The usage amount of titanium white and auxiliaries in the formulation are determined accordingly. Such coating formulation demonstrates better application performance instead of simply replacing titanium white.
Purpose of using the product:
The product can replace part of the titanium dioxide white powder in the production of waterborne coating, hence reducing the cost of raw material in the coatings. Customers shall adjust the usage amount of JN BA-3143 to replace titanium white in accordance with characteristics of different coating ingredients.
Compared titanium white with other pigments, opaque polymer constitutes a monodisperse spherical particle system with smaller volume and surface area. Therefore, when the opaque polymer is applied, the total surface area of the component with hiding power in the formulation is smaller, which results in reduction of usage amount of emulsion and material cost in the coating formulation.
Dispersant:
A smart choice of dispersant will greatly improve the property of the film and storage stability of the coating. Normally, when rheology modifier is applied, hydrophilic dispersant improves the storage stability of the coating. When hydrophilic dispersant is used in conjunction with hydrophobic dispersant, the storage stability and scrub resistance of the coating will be efficiently improved. JN BA-3143, a type of emulsion that disperses easily, can reduce usage amount of dispersant compared with other fillers.
Fillers:
Some common fillers, such as calciumcarbonate, kaolinite,, talcum powder, and etc., can be used in conjunction with JN BA-3143 in the coating formulation.
When preparing converted paper coating, 1 to 2 portions of adhesive may be reduced. Add the product into the coating prior to adhesive and stir the coating at a speed of 600 to 800r/min.
v Notes
The product shall be stored in a tightly sealed container. Avoid freezing and high temperature. The recommended storage temperature is between 10~35°C. The shelter life is six months.
