A PP cabinet is not a steel cabinet with a different shell. It's made differently from the start.
A steel laboratory cabinet starts as flat sheet. It gets cut, folded, welded at the seams, then powder-coated. The coat is applied as a dry powder, melted in an oven, and cured. That's the chemical barrier — a baked-on plastic film. If the film gets scratched or corrodes, the steel underneath is exposed.
A polypropylene cabinet starts as raw PP granules. The granules are heated, injected into a mold under pressure, and cooled into a single piece. Doors. Shelves. Hinge mounts. The entire cabinet body. No seams to weld, no coating to apply, no metal to protect.
That's the difference between a hybrid structure (steel + paint barrier) and a homogeneous structure (all PP, same material throughout). The HN-PP400 is the second type. It's shipped fully assembled — not knocked down — because the body is one piece. Open the crate, set it in place. No frame assembly, no panel joining, no thirty minutes with a hex key.
Why assembled matters for a PP cabinet
Steel cabinets ship KD because folding and welding produce parts that nest flat. A 90-gallon steel cabinet in parts fits into a box the size of a coffee table. The end user assembles it on site.
PP cabinets are not designed to be broken down. The injection-molded body is a single shell. Welded PP panels in larger sizes form a continuous joint — there is no seam-gap to re-seal if it were disassembled. The structural integrity depends on the material being continuous. So HN-PP series cabinets ship assembled.
What that means in practice:
Small to medium sizes (4-22 gal): fully assembled, foam-wrapped, corner-protected, shipped in a heavy-duty carton. Unpack and place.
Large sizes (60-90 gal): assembled body with detachable doors to reduce shipping width. The door is a bolt-on component, not a structural panel. Body stays intact.
This is relevant for lab planning. If the procurement team specifies a KD cabinet, they are thinking in steel-furniture terms. The trade-off is structural: a one-piece PP body holds up longer in chemical storage than a bolted-together alternative.

"No paint, no rust, no peeling" — what those three points actually mean
No paint. The porcelain white is the material's own color. Plastic resin is compounded with pigment before molding. Every millimeter of the cabinet body has the same color throughout — from the outer surface to the inside of the wall. A scratch or impact gouge reveals the same white underneath. There is no paint line, no coating thickness, no touch-up kit needed. In a steel cabinet, the white is powder coating. Scratch it and you expose gray bare steel. The cabinet then becomes a corrosion-starting point.
No rust. Polypropylene does not form oxides the way iron does. A steel shelf in a humid chemical room develops iron oxide when oxygen and moisture work through a coating defect. PP has no iron content. It is chemically immune to the mechanism that causes rust. Acid vapor, caustic mist, salt spray, chlorine — none trigger corrosion on PP surfaces. This is not a claim about coating quality. It is a material property.
No peeling. Powder coating on steel cabinets can blister and delaminate. The causes are familiar to any lab manager: solvent splash that softens the coating, impact that undercuts the bond between coating and metal, thermal cycling that causes differential expansion between metal and coating. Once a section detaches, the peel edge spreads because the exposed metal starts corroding underneath the adjacent coating. PP does not have a coating-to-substrate interface. There is nothing to peel.
These three disadvantages of painted steel are the main reasons pharma labs, cleanrooms, and wastewater test stations specify PP. Not because PP is "better" in a generic sense — but because a homogeneous plastic cabinet removes three specific failure modes that painted steel introduces by design.
Porcelain white: a specification choice, not just a color
The standard color for the HN-PP400 is porcelain white. This is not the bright white used on consumer plastic goods. It is a warm, slightly off-white similar to medical-grade polypropylene tubing and clinical lab instrument housings.
White surfaces show contamination instantly. A brown acid stain. A yellow chemical residue. A dust layer that indicates low air turnover. In cleanroom and pharma QC environments, visual contamination detection is a workflow requirement. A dark cabinet hides drips. A white cabinet shows them.
White also improves visibility inside the cabinet. When a lab technician works with dozens of similar reagent bottles, white shelf surfaces reflect available light and make labels readable without a flashlight or extra lab lighting.
For customers who need color-coded chemical storage — red for flammables, blue for corrosives, yellow for oxidizers — the PP material accepts Pantone-matched pigment. OEM orders can match a facility's existing color scheme. Lead time extends by 5-10 days for custom color runs.
CE certification and procurement compliance
The HN-PP400 series is CE certified. For a procurement officer sourcing for a pharma company or a university, CE simplifies the specification process.
