KL6Ex Miner’s cap lamp
1. INTRODUCTION
The operation manual should be read before using the miner’s cap lamp.
1.1 Characteristics
a) The miner’s cap lamp consists of Li - ion batteries and a new generation LED light source.
b) The electronic switch controls the ON/OFF of the main light source and auxiliary light sources.
c) The miner’s cap lamp has multi-functional protection.
d) A charging control circuit is fitted inside the headpiece of the miner’s cap lamp. This circuit enables the miner’s cap lamp to be charged on other manufacturers’ charger, but it shall meet the requirements of Section 4.1.
e) Due to the high efficiency and long life of the LED light source, it is not necessary to replace within the lifetime of miner’s cap lamp.
f) The miner’s cap lamp is compact, light in weight, maintenance free, long in service life, intrinsically safe and environmentally friendly.
1.2 Standards
The miner’s cap lamp complies with the following Standards:
EN 60079-0:2018; EN 60079-11:2012; EN 60079-35-1:2011; EN 50303:2000
2. STRUCTURE AND FEATURES
2.1 Structure
KL6Ex miner’s cap lamp consists of Lithium ion batteries, protection circuit, charging circuit, LED light source,
cable, headpiece shell and battery pack (made of flame-retardant, anti-static ABS) etc.
See figure 1

2.2 Features
(a) Short Circuit Protection - In the event of a short circuit in the headpiece or cable, the battery protective plate will cut off the power supply in 15ms. If, for any reason, this protection fails to operate, the current limiting resistance and quick-acting fuse will restrict the current to meet the requirements of the intrinsically safe standard.
(b) Over-Current Protection - In the case of an abnormal current increase, the battery protective plate will cut off the power supply in 15ms. If, for any reason, this protection fails to operate, the current limiting resistance and quick acting fuse will restrict the short circuit to meet the requirements of the intrinsic safety standard.
(c) Battery Protection - in addition to the above, over-current and over-heating protective PTC devices is built into the battery.

4. OPERATION
4.1 Charging
a) When the miner’s cap lamp voltage is less than 2.9 volts, the lamp will automatically go out, At this time, miner’s cap lamp needs to be charged timely.
b) The charging management circuit built in the miner’s cap lamp allows the lamp to use our charger or authorized chargers (When using a lead-acid battery charger to charge the LED miner’s cap lamp, the charging voltage should not exceed 8 volts.) While charging, the auxiliary light will flash every 5 seconds and stop flashing when the lamp is completely charged.
Charging contacts of the miner’s cap lamp type KL6Ex have terminal parameters of Um = 8V and must be supplied via a HBC fuse with a maximum current of 1A.
4.2 Use
a) Ensure the cap lamp is completely charged before use.
b) The battery pack is equipped with rotation type belt loop; clip the headpiece to the helmet and straighten out the cable.
c) Switch on the main light source on the headpiece; press the button again to convert the main light to the sub-light; press the button third time to switch off.
5. FAULT ANALYSIS
FAULT |
CAUSE ANALYSIS |
SOLUTION |
Main/auxiliary light source go out |
Battery power run out, cable or circuit damaged |
Recharge, replace the cable, or circuit components |
No indication on the charger during charging |
Poor contact, indicator light damaged, internal circuit damaged |
Check components Replace when necessary |
Short discharge time |
Battery life exhausted or battery not fully charged |
Replace battery or recharge |
6. OPERATIONAL SAFETY
a) It is strictly prohibited to dismantle the headpiece to replace the light source at underground mines.
b) Our chargers are non-explosion proof products therefore underground mine use is strictly prohibited
c) Unauthorized personnel must not undertake disassembly, repair of the miner’s cap lamp and the charger.
d) It is prohibited to change the circuit or connection methods, as this will invalidate the Explosion Proof Certificate.
e) The battery must not be put into a fire or be heated.
f) Scrapped batteries should be handed to local environmental services/departments for disposal.
g) The battery capacity may reduce discharging time in a cold or overheating environment
h) The miner’s cap lamp should be stored with battery capacity of more than 80%. Extended storage would permanently damage the battery. It is suggested that the miner’s cap lamp be charged again if its storage term exceeds 3 months.
7. ROUTINE TESTING OF THE LIGHT OUTPUT
7.1 Preparatory Requirements
a) Select a representative sample of fully charged miner’s cap lamps from the charging racks; all miner’s cap lamps are tested within four months..
b) Record the miner’s cap lamp identification or serial numbers.
c) Visually examine miner’s cap lamps for defects that would impair performance or safety.
d) Repair any defects found or remove the miner’s cap lamp from service.
e) Clean the miner’s cap lamp according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
f) Switch on the main light source for a period of time equal to the length of the working shift including all travel time in the mine.
7.2 Evaluation Procedure
Alternative 1
Position the miner’s cap lamp headpiece 1 000 mm ±5 mm from a suitably calibrated photocell.
Find the position of the highest measured value of illumination within a circle of diameter 100 mm ±2 mm on a plane parallel to the headpiece protective cover and record the value in lux (Emax).
The maximum illumination at 1m should not be less than 4500 lux.
Alternative 2
Place the cap lamp headpiece at the window of an integrating sphere with the dimensions shown below.

1. Headpiece aperture
2. Photocell
3. Baffle

The luminous flux shall not be less than 30 lumens. If the cap lamp fails to meet these requirements, corrective action should be taken before the cap lamp is put into use.
8. TRANSPORT AND STORAGE
When transporting it is not advisable to mix the miner’s cap lamp with oil or corrosive chemical goods and measures to protect from sun and rain must be adopted.
The storeroom for the miner’s cap lamps should be dry, well ventilated, far from heat source and corrosive objects with a temperature of 0 - 40ºC.
9. GUARANTEE
We guarantee the quality of cap lamp within 12 months from the date of shipment and would be responsible to repair it free in charge for any non-man-made damage during the period (except for any damage from force majeure, e.g. natural disasters, war, etc). The use of miner’s cap lamp shall strictly conform to the requirements in user’s manual. This guarantee does not cover the damage caused by improper use.
