Boiler Plate Product Detailed Description
Boiler plate is a special steel plate used for manufacturing high-temperature and high-pressure pressure-bearing components such as boilers, pressure vessels, steam drums, headers and heat exchangers. It features excellent high temperature resistance, pressure resistance, toughness and weldability. It is manufactured in accordance with GB 713-2014, and widely applied in electric power, chemical industry, energy, metallurgy and other fields.
1. Executive Standards & Main Grades
1.1 Domestic Standard
GB 713-2014 (replaces GB 713-2008): Steel plates for boilers and pressure vessels, applicable thickness range: 3–250mm.
1.2 Common Grades by Material
Carbon Steel (Medium & Low Pressure, ≤450℃)
Q245R (Former Grade: 20G): Yield strength ≥245MPa, cost-effective, for low-pressure boilers and vessels.
Q345R: Yield strength ≥345MPa, suitable for medium and high pressure working conditions, used for power station boiler drums and heat exchangers.
Low Alloy Heat-Resistant Steel (High Pressure & High Temperature, 450–560℃)
15CrMoR: Chromium-molybdenum alloy steel with good creep resistance, applied to superheaters and main steam pipelines.
12Cr1MoVR: Cr-Mo-V series steel with superior high-temperature strength, for high-pressure boiler drums and headers.
18MnMoNbR: Ideal for thick-walled high-pressure vessels and power station boiler drums.

4.1 Dimension Range
Thickness: 6–120mm (conventional), customized up to 250mm
Width: 1500–3800mm; Length: 6000–12000mm, custom cutting and flattening available
4.2 Delivery Condition
Normalizing (N): Main delivery state, grain refinement and excellent toughness, applicable for Q245R and Q345R.
Normalizing + Tempering (N+T): Adopted for heat-resistant steel such as 15CrMoR and 12Cr1MoVR to enhance high-temperature strength.
Thermo-Mechanical Control Process (TMCP): For high-performance steel to reduce alloy cost.
5. Key Characteristics
High Temperature Stability: Long-term service at 450–550℃ with good creep resistance and oxidation resistance, free from brittle failure.
High Pressure Resistance: High yield strength and strong deformation resistance for thick plates, suitable for boilers under 10–16MPa working pressure.
Excellent Weldability: Low carbon and low alloy design reduces welding crack sensitivity, easy for on-site welding operation.
Low Temperature Toughness: Impact energy ≥34J at -20℃, ensuring safe operation of outdoor boilers in cold northern regions.
6. Application Scope
Power Industry: Power station boiler drums, headers, superheaters and main steam pipelines (12Cr1MoVR, 15CrMoR)
Chemical Industry: Reactors, heat exchangers, separators and spherical tanks (Q345R, 15CrMoR)
Industrial Boilers: Drums and heating surfaces of low-pressure boilers (Q245R)
Pressure Vessels: Hydrogenation reactors and hydrogen storage tanks (18MnMoNbR)
7. Production Process & Quality Control
Smelting: Electric furnace combined with LF/VD refining. Strict control on impurities with low phosphorus (≤0.025%) and low sulfur (≤0.010%).
Rolling: High-temperature controlled rolling with precise thickness tolerance (±0.5–1.0mm). Free from surface cracks and excess scale.
Heat Treatment: Normalizing or tempering process to guarantee stable mechanical properties and qualified metallographic structure.
Flaw Detection: 100% Ultrasonic Testing (UT), qualified with Grade I / Grade II, no internal defects.
8. Packaging, Marking & Delivery
Packaging: Bundled with bare steel or galvanized steel strips, 2–5 tons per bundle, with moisture-proof and rust-proof treatment.
Marking: Grade, dimension, heat number, standard number and flaw detection grade marked on each plate.
Delivery: The delivery cycle is 5–7 working days. Bulk shipment and partial cutting delivery are both available.
