Product Description of Shipbuilding Steel Plate

Shipbuilding steel plates are hot-rolled steel plates manufactured in accordance with classification society rules, specially used for hull structures and marine engineering. They feature high strength, superior toughness, excellent seawater corrosion resistance and good weldability, suitable for harsh working conditions of ocean-going, coastal and inland waterway vessels as well as offshore platforms.

1. Applicable Standards & Certifications

1.1 Domestic Standards

  • GB 712-2011: Structural steel for ships and marine engineering (core national standard of China).

  • CCS (China Classification Society):Ordinary strength grades: CCSA, CCSB, CCSD, CCSEHigh strength grades: AH32, AH36, AH40, DH32, DH36, DH40, EH32, EH36, EH40, FH32, FH36, FH40

1.2 International Classification Society Certifications

ABS, BV, DNV, LR, KR, RINA. Products support single certification or multi-certification to meet requirements of ship owners worldwide.

2.2 High Strength Shipbuilding Plates (Yield Strength: 315-390MPa)

Take AH36, DH36, EH36 as examples: C ≤ 0.18%, Mn 0.90-1.60%, Si 0.10-0.50%, S ≤ 0.025%, P ≤ 0.025%.Carbon equivalent (Ceq) ≤ 0.36% (for thickness ≤ 50mm) to guarantee excellent weldability.

5. Key Characteristics

  1. High Toughness: Resist low-temperature brittle fracture and withstand wave impact and alternating loads.

  2. Good Corrosion Resistance: Resist chemical and electrochemical corrosion caused by seawater, slow down rusting and marine organism adhesion.

  3. Excellent Weldability: Low carbon equivalent, suitable for complex hull welding and effectively reduce cracking risk.

  4. High Fatigue Resistance: Resist deformation and cracking under long-term vibration and variable loads.

  5. Good Processability: Easy for cutting, bending and stamping to meet complex forming requirements of hull structures.

6.1 Shipbuilding Industry

7. Production & Inspection

7.1 Production Process

Ironmaking → Steelmaking → Continuous Casting → Hot Rolling → Finishing → Nondestructive Testing → Marking → Packaging

7.2 Quality Inspection

  • Mechanical test: Tensile test, impact test, bend test, hardness test

  • Nondestructive test: Ultrasonic Testing (UT, mandatory), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Radiographic Testing (RT)

  • Surface inspection: Free from cracks, scabs, folds and excessive rust; dimensional tolerance complies with relevant standards.

7.3 Marking & Packaging

Products are bundled and wrapped with anti-rust film. Marks including standard, grade, dimension, batch number and classification society certification are clearly printed. Official quality certificates are provided together with goods.

8. Delivery & Service

  • Origin: Major steel mills located in Tianjin, Shandong, Jiangsu and other regions.

  • Lead Time: 5-7 working days for standard stock items; 7-15 days for customized products.

  • Shipment: Delivered from Tianjin Port & Qingdao Port via truck or sea transportation. Goods are well protected against moisture and collision.
