Product Specification for Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG)

Ⅰ. Product Overview

Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) refer to seamless steel pipes specially used for oil & gas well service, mainly divided into Casing and Tubing, which are core materials for oil & gas drilling, well completion and oil production. Manufactured via hot rolling / hot expanding seamless process in strict compliance with API 5CT, API 5B, GB/T19830 and ISO11960, the products are applicable for onshore oilfields, offshore oil & gas wells, shale gas fracturing wells and sour crude wells with corrosive formation fluid.Stock available at Tianjin warehouse; delivery lead time: 5~7 working days; shipped in full container loads with 25MT per container.

1.1 Classification & Application

(1) Casing (Wellbore Supporting Pipe, over 70% of total OCTG consumption)

  • Conductor Casing: Large outer diameter for wellhead fixation, isolating shallow surface water and loose formation to prevent shallow well collapse, available in sizes from 4-1/2″ to 20″ (114.3mm~508mm).

  • Intermediate Casing: Seals off complicated formations, high-pressure aquifers and lost-circulation strata to guarantee smooth drilling mud circulation, ideal for deep wells and salt formation wells.

  • Production Casing: Run into hydrocarbon pay zones and secured by cementing to isolate different oil, gas and water layers, serving as outer protection for downhole tubing.

(2) Tubing (Downhole Fluid Conveyance Pipe)

Installed inside casing to form flow paths for crude oil, natural gas and formation water lifting; also used for downhole water injection and gas injection stimulation. Three end configurations available: Non-Upset End (NU), External Upset End (EU) and Integral Joint (IJ), conventional OD range: 1.9″~4-1/2″ (60.3mm~114.3mm).

Ⅱ. Applicable Standards

  1. American Standard: API Spec 5CT (11th Edition, 2023) (governing chemical composition and mechanical property of pipes), API Spec 5B (governing thread machining, coupling and thread inspection)

  2. Chinese National Standard: GB/T19830-2011 Casing and Tubing for Oil and Gas Wells, fully aligned with technical indicators of API 5CT

  3. Extra specification for corrosive service: NACE MR0175 (for H₂S hydrogen sulfide & CO₂ carbon dioxide corrosion resistance)

4.2 Standard Length Range (API R1/R2/R3)

  • R1: 6.10~7.32m (short length)

  • R2: 8.53~9.75m (market mainstream, common production length:9.4~9.6m)

  • R3: 11.58~12.80m (extra long for ultra-deep well project)

4.3 Thread Types

  1. STC: Short Thread Coupling: Cost-effective for shallow low-pressure wells

  2. LTC: Long Thread Coupling: Longer thread engagement for medium-pressure service with better sealing performance than STC

  3. BTC: Buttress Thread Coupling: Dominant grade for deep high-pressure wells with outstanding tensile & collapse resistance

  4. Premium Thread (VAM/Hydril): Custom premium connection: Custom-made for ultra-deep and sour wells with superior gas tightness and anti-disengagement property

Ⅴ. Production Flow Chart

Steelmaking & refining → Round billet heating → Piercing & hot rolling → Sizing & straightening → Non-destructive Testing → Heat Treatment (Quench & Temper for N80 and above grades) → Thread machining → Coupling assembly → Hydrostatic pressure test & anti-rust treatment → Marking & warehousing

Full-range inspection: UT Ultrasonic Test, MT Magnetic Particle Test, Hydrostatic Test (Min.70MPa for casing, Min.55MPa for tubing), Charpy impact test and mechanical property verification.

Ⅵ. Product Advantages

  1. High Collapse Resistance: Actual collapse strength exceeds 15% above API standard, effectively preventing pipe deformation in unconsolidated sandstone and ductile salt formation;
