Steel Sheet Pile Product Specification
Steel sheet piles are section steel with interlocking latches on edges. They connect end to end via latches to form continuous steel walls for earth retaining, water blocking and anti-seepage. Widely used in temporary support and permanent hydraulic structures, featuring high strength, excellent water tightness and reusable performance.
1. Product Classification
1.1 By Manufacturing Process
Hot-rolled Steel Sheet PileFormed by one-step high-temperature rolling with regular cross-section, precise latches and high yield strength (≥355MPa). Superior sealing and durability, suitable for deep foundation pits, high-water-pressure projects and permanent construction as mainstream product.
Cold-formed Steel Sheet PileRolled from 8–14mm thin steel strips on cold bending units. Flexible customized length and lower cost, around 15%–20% lighter per unit weight than hot-rolled items. Inferior latch tightness and prone to crack, mainly applied to shallow temporary foundation pits and municipal pipe gallery projects.
1.2 By Cross-section Shape
U-type (Larssen Type)Most common specification with favorable lateral rigidity and bending resistance plus tight water-proof latches. Standard effective width: 400–600mm, section modulus: 600–2500cm³/m, ideal for dock construction, deep foundation pits and cofferdams.
Z-typeHigh section modulus, effective width 600–800mm for fast installation, section modulus 2000–6000cm³/m. Designed for large-scale wharves and deep foundation pits under high earth pressure.
Flat Web TypeFlat profile for easy driving and good water resistance yet low bending rigidity, used for shallow foundation pits on favorable soil conditions.

Hot rolled: Q355B, Q390, Q420, Q460 (per GB/T 20933-2021)
Cold formed: Q235B, Q355B, Q390 (per GB/T 29654-2013)

Yield Strength: Q355B ≥355MPa; Q390 ≥390MPa
Tensile Strength: 470–630MPa (Q355B)
Elongation: ≥20% to guarantee ductility
Latch slip resistance: ≥200kN/m for water sealing and overall structural stability

6. Quality Standard & Inspection

Hot rolled: GB/T 20933-2021 Hot Rolled Steel Sheet Piles
Cold formed: GB/T 29654-2013 Cold Formed Steel Sheet Piles
Industrial Specification: JG/T 196-2018 Steel Sheet Piles
6.2 Acceptance Criteria
Surface: No crack, deformation or severe rust, smooth latch without burrs
Dimension Tolerance: Width/height/thickness ±2%, length ≤±50mm
Latch Performance: Smooth interlock without jamming, gap ≤3mm
Material: Original mill certificate supplied with qualified chemical composition and mechanical test results
7. Packing & Delivery Terms
Packing: Bundled in 10–20 pieces per bundle, marked with model, dimension, material grade and heat number on each end.
Delivery Condition: Anti-rust cleaned with primer coating; hot-dip galvanization available upon special requirement for enhanced anti-corrosion.
Available Length: Regular length 6/9/12/15m, maximum customized length up to 24m per contract.
8. Type Selection Guidance
Shallow pit (≤6m) & temporary project: Cold formed U-type Q235B/Q355B for cost saving and easy installation
Deep pit (>6m), high water pressure & permanent structure: Hot rolled U/Z type Q355B/Q390 for high strength and reliable water sealing
Large-scale project under high lateral earth pressure: Prefer Z-type for large section modulus and high construction efficiency
