Angle Steel Product Description
1. Product Overview
Angle steel (commonly known as angle iron) is a hot-rolled or cold-formed section steel with an L-shaped cross-section composed of two mutually perpendicular sides. It is widely applied in construction, machinery, electric power, bridges and other industries. It features light structure, high strength, easy welding and bolt connection, as well as cost efficiency.
2. Product Classification
2.1 By Cross-section Shape
Equal Angle Steel: Two sides have the same width, marked as Side Width × Side Thickness (mm), e.g. ∠50×5 (50mm×50mm×5mm). The model number is indicated by the side width in centimeters (e.g. No.5). It delivers uniform stress and good symmetry, being the most widely used type.
Unequal Angle Steel: Two sides have different widths, marked as Long Side × Short Side × Side Thickness (mm), e.g. ∠63×40×5. It is suitable for special load-bearing scenarios and material saving.
2.2 By Production Process
Hot-rolled Angle Steel: The mainstream product complying with GB/T 706-2016. It has surface oxide scale, relatively large dimensional tolerance and low cost, ideal for general structures.
Cold-formed Angle Steel: Manufactured in accordance with GB/T 6723-2017. It features uniform wall thickness, smooth surface and high precision, applicable for light-duty and precision structures.
2.3 By Material Grade
Carbon Structural Steel: Q235B (most common, yield strength ≥235MPa), Q275, SS400, A36.
High-strength Low-alloy Steel: Q345B/C/D/E (yield strength ≥345MPa, excellent low-temperature toughness).
3. Specifications & Dimensions (GB/T 706-2016)
3.1 Equal Angle Steel (No.2 – No.20)
Side width: 20mm – 200mm; Side thickness: 3mm – 20mm; Standard length: 4m – 12m (fixed length / multiple length).Theoretical weight formula: W=0.00785 × Thickness × (2 × Width − Thickness) (kg/m).Example: Theoretical weight of ∠50×5 is approximately 3.73kg/m.
3.2 Unequal Angle Steel (No.3.2/2 – No.20/12.5)
Long side: 25mm – 200mm; Short side: 16mm – 125mm; Side thickness: 3mm – 18mm.
3.3 Size Classification
Large size: Side width ≥ 125mm
Medium size: 50mm ≤ Side width < 125mm
Small size: Side width < 50mm
4. Material & Mechanical Properties
4.1 Chemical Composition (Typical Q235B)
C ≤ 0.22%, Mn ≤ 1.4%, Si ≤ 0.35%, S ≤ 0.045%, P ≤ 0.045%.
4.2 Room-temperature Mechanical Properties
Q235B: Yield strength (ReH) ≥ 235MPa; Tensile strength (Rm): 370–500MPa; Elongation (A) ≥ 26%.
Q345B: Yield strength (ReH) ≥ 345MPa; Tensile strength (Rm): 470–630MPa; Elongation (A) ≥ 21%.
5. Surface Treatment & Delivery Condition
Black Finish (Hot-rolled Original Surface): Low cost, requiring subsequent painting and anti-rust treatment.
Hot-dip Galvanized (HDG): Superior anti-corrosion performance. Zinc coating thickness ≥ 85μm, salt spray resistance ≥ 500h, suitable for outdoor and humid environments.
Electro-galvanized / Painted Finish: Low cost with ordinary anti-corrosion effect, for indoor dry environments.
Delivery status: Hot-rolled (R), Normalized (N), Galvanized (Z). Standard lengths: 4m / 6m / 9m / 12m (custom lengths available).

GB/T 706-2016 (Hot-rolled section steel), GB/T 6723-2017 (Cold-formed section steel), GB/T 700 (Carbon structural steel), GB/T 1591 (High-strength low-alloy structural steel).
7.2 Dimensional Tolerance
Side width tolerance: ±1.5%; Side thickness tolerance: ±12%; Bending deflection ≤ 2mm per meter.
7.3 Inspection Items
Appearance (no cracks, scabs or folds), dimension, weight, mechanical properties (tensile test / impact test) and chemical composition.

9. Packaging, Storage & Transportation
Packaging: Bundled (50–100 pieces per bundle) with firm binding. Clear marks including specification, material grade, batch number and manufacturer shall be attached.
Storage & Transportation: Keep rainproof and moisture-proof, avoid direct sunlight and corrosion. Place on flat supports during stacking to prevent bending and deformation.
