High Pressure Boiler Tube - Product Description

High pressure boiler tubes are seamless steel pipes specially used for boilers operating at high pressure and above. Featuring excellent high-temperature resistance, pressure resistance, creep resistance and corrosion resistance, they work continuously under working conditions of 450–650℃ and pressure above 9.8 MPa to convey high-temperature and high-pressure steam. They are key pressure-bearing components for power station boilers, thermal power plants and petrochemical facilities.

1. Applicable Standards

  • Chinese Standard: GB/T 5310-2023 (current version, replacing GB/T 5310-2017)

  • American Standard: ASME SA-213, SA-335, SA-106

  • German Standard: DIN 17175

2. Materials & Main Chemical Compositions

2.1 Common Chinese Standard Grades

  • 20G: High-quality carbon steel, Carbon: 0.17–0.24%. Suitable for working temperature ≤450℃ and medium-high pressure, applied to economizers and low-temperature pipelines.

  • 15CrMoG: Chromium-molybdenum steel, Chromium: 0.8–1.1%, Molybdenum: 0.4–0.55%. Applicable at 500–540℃ and 10–14 MPa, used for superheaters and main steam pipelines.

  • 12Cr1MoVG: Chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel, Chromium: 0.9–1.2%, Molybdenum: 0.25–0.35%, Vanadium: 0.15–0.3%. Service temperature 540–570℃, pressure 17–20 MPa, the core material for subcritical boilers.

  • 12Cr2MoG: Chromium-molybdenum steel, Chromium: 2.0–2.5%, Molybdenum: 0.9–1.1%. Working temperature 550–580℃, for reheaters and high-temperature headers.

  • 10Cr9Mo1VNb (P91): Ferritic heat-resistant steel, Chromium: 8.0–9.5%, Molybdenum: 0.85–1.05%, containing Vanadium and Niobium. Suitable for 580–600℃, applied to supercritical power generation units.

2.2 Equivalent American Standard Grades

  • T11/P11 (15CrMo), T22/P22 (12Cr2Mo), T91/P91, T92/P92

3. Dimension Specifications

  • Outer Diameter: 10–1220 mm (common range: 38–426 mm)

  • Wall Thickness: 2–120 mm (heavy wall pipe: wall thickness ≥ 10% of outer diameter)

  • Length: 4–13 m (custom fixed lengths available)

  • Tolerance: Outer diameter ±0.5–1%, Wall thickness ±10%, Length ±5 mm

4. Production Process

  1. Smelting: Electric furnace smelting with LF/VD refining to ensure high purity and low impurity content.

  2. Rolling: Hot rolling for large-diameter pipes, cold drawing for small-diameter pipes. The finished pipes feature seamless structure and high density.

  3. Heat Treatment:

  • 20G: Normalizing at 900–930℃

  • 15CrMoG / 12Cr1MoVG: Normalizing + Tempering (Normalizing: 950–980℃; Tempering: 720–760℃)

  • P91: Normalizing + High-temperature tempering (Normalizing: 1040℃; Tempering: 760℃)

5. Room-temperature Mechanical Properties

Material Tensile Strength (MPa) Yield Strength (MPa) Elongation (%) Impact Energy (J)
20G 410–550 ≥245 ≥24 ≥35
15CrMoG 440–640 ≥295 ≥22 ≥35
12Cr1MoVG 470–640 ≥255 ≥21 ≥35
P91 ≥585 ≥415 ≥20 ≥41

6. Core Performance Requirements

  1. High-temperature Strength: Excellent rupture strength and creep resistance, no deformation under long-term high-temperature service.

  2. Microstructure Stability: No pearlite spheroidization or graphitization during long-term operation.

  3. Corrosion Resistance: Resistant to steam oxidation, flue gas corrosion and stress corrosion.

  4. Processing Performance: Good weldability, cold bending performance and heat treatment performance.

7. Main Applications

  • Superheater Tubes: Operate at 540–570℃ and 17–20 MPa for high-temperature steam heating.

  • Reheater Tubes: Secondary heating of steam, working at 500–540℃ and 3–5 MPa.

  • Main Steam Pipes & Guide Pipes: Transportation of high-temperature and high-pressure steam.

  • Economizer Tubes: Preheating boiler feed water, service temperature ≤450℃.

  • Headers & Industrial Pipelines: Widely used in power stations, petrochemical and coal chemical high-pressure piping systems.

8. Appearance & Quality Requirements

  • No cracks, folds, scars, delaminations or hair lines on inner and outer surfaces.

  • The depth of removed defects shall not exceed the negative tolerance of wall thickness, and the residual wall thickness shall meet the minimum allowable standard.

  • Free from excessive scale and rust; pipe ends are flat and perpendicular to the pipe axis.

9. Inspection Items

  • Dimensional Inspection: Outer diameter, wall thickness, length and ovality.

  • Non-destructive Testing: Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Eddy Current Testing (ET), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).

  • Mechanical Testing: Tensile test, impact test, hardness test, flattening test and bending test.

  • Hydrostatic Test: Test pressure calculated by formula: 2 × Wall Thickness × Yield Strength / Outer Diameter. Hold pressure for no less than 5 seconds without leakage.

  • Metallographic Examination: Grain size, microstructure and decarburized layer inspection.

10. Packaging & Marking

  • Bundled packing with plastic end caps for protection, moisture-proof and rust-proof treatment applied.

  • Marking: Standard number, material grade, dimension, batch number, heat number and manufacturer.

  • Mill Test Certificate: Including chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment record and non-destructive testing report.

11. Material Selection Guide

  • Working temperature ≤450℃, medium-high pressure: Select 20G for cost efficiency.

  • Working temperature 500–540℃, pressure 10–14 MPa: Select 15CrMoG for stable performance.

  • Working temperature 540–570℃, pressure 17–20 MPa: Select 12Cr1MoVG, the preferred grade for subcritical boilers.

  • Working temperature 580–600℃, supercritical working condition: Select P91/P92 with superior high-temperature strength.
