Detailed Specification of Pre-painted Steel Coil
Pre-painted steel coil (PPGI/PPGL for short) is manufactured by taking hot-dip galvanized or galvalume steel coil as base material, conducting chemical pretreatment, roller-coating organic paint and baking at high temperature for curing. It features light weight, beautiful appearance, high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, which is a core material widely used in construction, home appliances, transportation and other industries.
1. Core Structure & Material
1.1 Base Substrate
The substrate determines basic strength and corrosion resistance of pre-painted coil:
Hot-dip Galvanized Substrate (GI)Most commonly used, double-sided zinc coating weight: 180-275g/㎡. Cost-effective with good anti-rust performance, suitable for general construction and home appliance fields.
Hot-dip Galvalume Substrate (GL)Alloy coating composed of 55% aluminum and 45% zinc. Its corrosion resistance is 2-3 times that of galvanized sheet, ideal for coastal areas and chemical corrosive environments.
Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium Substrate (ZAM)High-end coated material with superior anti-corrosion ability and good cut edge self-healing performance, applied in severe corrosion occasions.
Cold Rolled Substrate (CR)Without anti-rust coating, only used for indoor low-corrosion environment with low cost.
1.2 Coating System
Coating directly decides weather resistance, service life and surface appearance:

1.3 Coating Structure
2/1 Coating: Double coats on front side, single coat on back side, good adhesion for sandwich panel production.
2/2 Coating: Double coats on both sides, optimal anti-corrosion effect for single-layer profiled steel sheet.
Paint Film Thickness: Top coat 10-25μm, back coat 3-10μm, customized available.
2. Standard Specifications (Customizable)
2.1 Size Range
Thickness: 0.22-2.0mm (Common: 0.3-1.2mm)
Width: 800-1250mm (Common: 1000mm, 1200mm)
Form: Coil type, can be cut into flat sheets as required
2.2 Coil Weight & Inner Diameter
Coil Weight: 2-10 tons (Common: 5-8 tons)
Inner Diameter: 508mm (20 inch) / 610mm (24 inch)
2.3 Color Series
Regular Colors: Sea blue, off-white, brick red, scarlet, silver grey, ivory white
Custom Colors: Available per RAL color card, international color card or customer samples
3. Production Process
Uncoil and straighten galvanized/galvalume raw material
Chemical pretreatment: Degreasing → Water washing → Passivation treatment to enhance paint adhesion
Evenly roll-coat primer and finish paint on front and reverse sides
High-temperature baking curing at 180-220℃
Air cooling, recoiling, quality inspection and finished product packaging
4. Main Performance
Superior Corrosion Resistance: Isolate air and moisture effectively. PVDF coated coil can pass over 5000 hours salt spray test.
Excellent Weather Resistance: Anti-aging, anti-ultraviolet, no easy fading, chalking or cracking under outdoor exposure.
Good Processability: Support bending, stamping, shearing and roll forming without paint peeling off.
Rich Decorative Effect: Various colors and surface finishes including matte, highlight and texture finish.
Eco-friendly: Non-radioactive and fully recyclable, complying with green building material standards.
5. Main Applications
Construction Industry: Roof & wall panels for workshops, warehouses, stadiums and airports; sandwich panels, clean room panels and steel structure enclosure materials.
Home Appliance Industry: Shells of refrigerator, washing machine, air conditioner and other household electrical appliances.
Transportation Industry: Container plates, refrigerated truck carriage plates, traffic guardrails and road signs.
Other Fields: Advertising billboards, furniture, steel doors, ceiling decoration, electric cabinet shells and pipeline outer protective shells.
6. Quality Standard & Packing
6.1 Executive Standard
National Standard: GB/T 12754-2019 Color Coated Steel Sheet and StripEnterprise standards of major domestic steel mills are also acceptable.
6.2 Packing Method
Steel coil: Wrapped with anti-rust paper, plastic film and iron protective angles for moisture-proof and collision-proof.
Flat sheet: Covered with protective film, separated by paper spacer and firmly bundled to avoid scratch and deformation.
7. Selection Guidance
Ordinary outdoor factory buildings: SMP coating + galvalume substrate, high cost performance
Severe corrosive & coastal areas: PVDF coating + zinc-aluminum-magnesium substrate for long service life
Indoor use & home appliances: PE coating + hot-dip galvanized substrate for low cost
High-end landmark buildings: HDP/PVDF coating + galvalume substrate for stable color retention
