Detailed Description of Cast Iron Pipe Products
I. Product Definition
Cast Iron Pipe: A metal pipe made from molten iron through smelting, casting, and cooling processes, mainly used for water supply, drainage, gas, fire protection, and industrial fluid transportation. It has the advantages of high strength, corrosion resistance, long service life, good interface flexibility, and easy construction.
II. Material Classification, Material Models and Core Performance
(1) Grey Iron Pipe
Material Models: HT100, HT150, HT200 (classified by tensile strength; HT150 is commonly used in mainstream projects)
Graphite is flaky, with high brittleness, acceptable compressive strength, and low tensile strength.
Application: Building drainage, non-pressure/low-pressure sewage discharge; gradually being replaced by ductile iron pipes.
(2) Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) — Mainstream Product
Material Models: QT450-10, QT500-7, QT600-3 (QT450-10 is mainstream for municipal water supply; QT500-7 and above are selected for high-pressure working conditions)
Nodulizers (such as ferrosilicon and magnesium alloy) are added to molten iron, making graphite spherical, which combines the corrosion resistance of cast iron and the toughness of steel.
Tensile strength: ≥420 MPa (about 3 times that of grey iron pipes);
Pressure resistance: 1.0–1.6 MPa, applicable to municipal high-pressure water supply;
Corrosion rate: 0.02–0.05 mm/year (much better than grey iron pipes).
(3) High-Silicon Cast Iron Pipe
Material Models: HT200-Si15, HT250-Si17 (silicon content 14%-18%, classified by silicon content and tensile strength)
Highly corrosion-resistant (to acids, alkalis, salt solutions, etc.), used in special chemical working conditions (such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid transportation).
III. Manufacturing Process
1. Centrifugal Casting (Mainstream)
- Sand mold centrifugal casting: Low cost, used for medium and low-pressure water supply and drainage;
- Metal mold centrifugal casting: Fast cooling, dense structure, high strength, suitable for high pressure and large diameter.
2. Continuous Casting: High efficiency, accurate dimensions, suitable for mass production of grey iron straight pipes.

- Nominal Diameter (DN): DN80–DN2600 (commonly used DN100–DN1200).
- Standard Length: 6 m, 8 m, 12 m (customizable).
- Interface Types
- Flexible Interface (Type K/N/S): Sealed with rubber ring, rotatable and adaptable to foundation settlement, preferred for municipal projects;
- Flange Interface: Flange + rubber gasket, used forhigh pressure and equipment connection;
- Socket-and-Spigot Rigid Interface (Obsolete): Sealed with cement, prone to leakage.
