Petroleum Pipe Product Detailed Description
Petroleum pipes are core special pipes for oil and gas exploration, development and transportation. The main product categories include Casing, Tubing, Drill Pipe and Line Pipe, manufactured in accordance with API and other international standards, suitable for harsh working conditions such as high pressure, high temperature and heavy corrosion.
1. Product Classification and Application
1.1 Casing
Function: Stabilize well walls, isolate formation layers, prevent well collapse and pollution, and support wellhead equipment.
Types: Conductor Pipe, Surface Casing, Intermediate Casing, Production Casing (accounting for over 70% of oil well pipe consumption).
Specifications: Outer diameter 114.3–508mm, wall thickness 5–15.9mm, length 5.5–22.23m.
Steel Grades: H40, J55, K55, N80, L80, P110, Q125, etc.
1.2 Tubing
Function: Suspended inside the casing to transport oil and gas from the bottom of the well to the ground.
Types: Plain End Tubing, External Upset Tubing (EU) / Internal Upset Tubing (IU).
Specifications: Outer diameter 48.36–114.3mm, wall thickness 4.83–9.52mm, length 6–12.5m.
Steel Grades: N80, L80, C90, T95, P110 (sulfur-resistant / high strength grade).
1.3 Drill Pipe
Function: Connect drill bits, transmit torque and drilling fluid, and bear combined loads of tension, compression, torsion and bending.
Specifications: Outer diameter 60.3–168.3mm, standard length 9.14m (30ft); Steel Grades: E75, X95, G105, S135.
1.4 Line Pipe
Function: Long-distance transportation of crude oil and natural gas, applicable for high-pressure main pipelines.
Standards: API 5L (PSL1/PSL2), GB/T 9711.
Steel Grades: B, X42, X52, X60, X70, X80 (X denotes yield strength in ksi).
2. Material and Core Performance
2.1 Common Steel Grades & Applicable Working Conditions
Normal Environment: J55/K55 (low strength), N80 (medium strength), P110 (high strength).
Sulfur-containing Environment (H₂S): L80 (benchmark sulfur resistance), C90/T95 (high sulfur resistance, anti-stress corrosion cracking).
Heavy Corrosion (CO₂/Cl⁻): 13Cr, 22Cr stainless steel, nickel-based alloy for extreme corrosion conditions.
2.2 Core Performance Requirements
High Strength: Yield strength ≥55–150ksi, resistant to internal pressure and external collapse.
High Toughness: Low-temperature impact energy ≥27J, avoid brittle fracture.
Corrosion Resistance: Resist H₂S, CO₂ and chloride ion erosion, anti-sulfide stress cracking (SSCC).
Tight Sealing: Premium thread types with zero leakage under high pressure.
3. Manufacturing Process & Executive Standards
3.1 Manufacturing Process
Seamless Pipe: Billet heating → Piercing → Pipe rolling → Sizing → Heat treatment → Thread processing → Inspection.
Welded Pipe (ERW/HFW): Steel strip forming → High-frequency welding → Heat treatment → Sizing → Thread processing → Inspection.
3.2 Main Executive Standards
International Standards: API 5CT (Casing & Tubing), API 5B (Thread Specification), API 5D (Drill Pipe), API 5L (Line Pipe).
Chinese National Standards: GB/T 9711 (Line Pipe), SY/T 6194 (Oil Casing & Tubing).
4. Thread Types & Connection Modes
Standard Threads: BTC (Buttress Thread Coupling), STC (Short Round Thread), LTC (Long Round Thread).
Premium Threads: Metal-to-metal sealing, high torsion resistance and anti-galling performance; suitable for high-pressure and deep wells, such as VAM TOP, BGC, BGT1.
5. Surface Treatment & Anti-corrosion
External Coating: Black paint, coal tar epoxy, 3PE three-layer polyethylene coating for buried pipeline anti-corrosion.
Internal Coating: Anti-corrosion coating and drag reduction coating to reduce scaling and friction.
Coupling Anti-corrosion: Phosphating, galvanizing and rust preventive oil coating.
6. Quality Inspection & Acceptance
Non-destructive Testing (NDT): Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Eddy Current Testing (ET), Hydrostatic Pressure Test.
Mechanical Performance Test: Tensile test, impact test, hardness test, flattening test.
Thread Inspection: Tooth profile, pitch, standoff distance and sealing surface detection.
7. Packaging & Delivery
Packaging: Bundled in 5–20 pieces per bundle; thread ends protected by thread protectors; wrapped with tarpaulin for rainproof.
Shipping: Departure from Tianjin/Qingdao Port, delivery time 5–7 days; support FOB, CIF, CFR trade terms.
8. Selection Guide
By Well Depth: Shallow well (J55/K55), Medium-deep well (N80/L80), Deep & Ultra-deep well (P110/Q125).
By Corrosion Medium: Non-sulfur environment (N80/P110), Sulfur-containing environment (L80/C90/T95), High sulfur environment (C90/T95), CO₂ corrosion environment (13Cr).
By Working Pressure: Low pressure (≤35MPa), Medium pressure (35–70MPa), High pressure (≥70MPa, adopt premium thread & high steel grade).
