Hot-Rolled Steel Coil – Detailed Product Description
1. Product Definition
Hot-Rolled Coil (HRC)Hot-rolled steel coil is produced by heating continuous casting slab above the recrystallization temperature, then rolling through roughing and finishing mill trains, followed by laminar cooling and coiling. It retains the original high-temperature structure with excellent ductility and weldability, featuring cost-effectiveness and wide suitability for structural use and secondary processing.

Thickness: 1.2–25.4 mm (Common: 1.5–12.7 mm)
Width: 800–2050 mm (Regular sizes: 1250 mm / 1500 mm / 1800 mm)
Coil Weight: 5–30 tons (Standard: 17–22 tons)
Inner Coil Diameter: Φ580 mm / Φ762 mm (Standard: 762 mm)
Dimensional Tolerance: Thickness ±0.12–±0.5 mm; Width 0–+5 mm (Sheared Edge)
3. Main Steel Grades
Ordinary Carbon Structural Steel
Q235B / SPHC / SS400Yield strength 235MPa, widely used for welded pipes, steel structures, cable trays, storage racks, hardware products and electrical cabinets.
Low Alloy High Strength Steel
Q355B/C/D/EYield strength 355MPa, applied for photovoltaic supports, scaffolding, elevator guide rails and building steel structures.
Automotive Structural Steel
Q420 / Q460 / 510L / 610LUsed for truck frame beam, wheel steel, axle housing steel, chassis parts and bus rectangular tubes.
Quality Carbon Steel
20# / 45#Further processed into cold rolled material for chains, measuring tools, fasteners and safety belt parts.

Q295NH / Q355NHAlloyed with Cu, Cr and Ni for superior atmospheric corrosion resistance, suitable for containers, railway wagons and outdoor building curtain walls.
4. Production Process
Slab Preparation: Continuous casting slab, thickness 150–250 mm.
Reheating: Heated to 1200–1250℃ in reheating furnace for good plasticity.
Rough Rolling: Multiple rolling passes to reduce thickness to 30–50 mm as intermediate slab.
Finish Rolling: Continuous rolling at finishing temperature 800–880℃ for precise size control.
Laminar Cooling: Water cooling to 550–650℃ to stabilize microstructure and mechanical properties.
Coiling: Coiled into steel coils, air-cooled to room temperature then inspected and warehoused.
5. Surface Condition & Mechanical Properties
Surface Feature: With hot rolled oxide scale, dark grey and rough surface, less smooth than cold rolled steel.
Allowable Defects: Slight pitting, scratches, roll marks and color difference; Cracks, inclusions and severe rust are not allowed.
Mechanical Properties:Yield Strength: 235–700 MPaTensile Strength: 370–900 MPaElongation: 20%–40%Good ductility, easy for bending and stamping processing.

8. Packaging & Delivery
Packing: Inner & outer edge protector, steel strip bundled, with moisture-proof and anti-rust film optional.
Delivery Condition: Hot rolled black / Pickled / Oiled; Available for cut-to-length plate and slitted strip.
9. Advantages & Disadvantages
Advantages: Low cost, high strength, good ductility, excellent weldability, easy processing, wide size range and stable supply.
Disadvantages: Rough surface, lower dimensional accuracy than cold rolled steel; Oxide scale needs to be removed by pickling or sandblasting; Low temperature toughness depends on special steel grades.
10. Purchasing Notes
Confirm steel grade and quality level (Q235B / Q355B etc.).
Specify thickness × width × coil weight, tolerance and edge type.
Clarify surface requirement: hot rolled / pickled / oiled.
Provide Mill Test Certificate with heat number, chemical composition and mechanical property data.
