1. Product Definition

Hot Rolled Steel Coil (HRC) adopts continuous casting slab as raw material. The slab is heated in a furnace above the recrystallization temperature (about 1100–1250℃), then processed through roughing mill and finishing mill for continuous rolling. After laminar cooling and coiling, it is formed into steel coils. It is a basic flat steel material with low cost and good formability, widely used in various industries.

2. Production Process Flow

Slab incoming → Reheating furnace heating → Rough rolling (thickness reduction & width sizing) → Finish rolling (rolling to target thickness) → Laminar cooling (temperature control) → Coiling → Finishing (leveling, slitting/shearing, flaw detection, oiling, packaging) → Finished product warehousing.

4. Surface Quality & Delivery Condition

4.1 Surface Feature

  • Natural dark grey oxide scale (intrinsic for hot rolling, can be removed by pickling).

  • Allowable defects: slight pitting, roll mark, color difference and non-tact scratch, which will not affect forming and welding performance.

  • Unacceptable defects: crack, inclusion, shelling, heavy rust and stop mark.

4.2 Delivery State

As rolled (black surface), pickled state (oxide scale removed with silver-grey surface), leveled state (improved flatness and surface), oiled / non-oiled for rust prevention.

5. Main Characteristics

  1. Low cost: Mature production process with high efficiency, cheaper than cold rolled coils.

  2. Good ductility: Rolled at high temperature with high elongation, easy for bending, stamping and deep processing.

  3. Moderate strength: Carbon steel for general structure; low alloy high strength steel can replace thick plate to realize lightweight and cost reduction.

  4. Excellent weldability: Low carbon equivalent, low sensitivity to welding crack, suitable for various welding processes.

  5. Ordinary surface precision: Dimensional tolerance and surface finish are lower than cold rolled steel, with natural oxide scale, requiring subsequent surface treatment.

8. Packaging, Storage & Transportation

  • Packaging: Wrapped with anti-rust paper, plastic film and steel strapping; equipped with end protector, marked with grade, specification, batch number and weight.

  • Storage: Store in dry and ventilated warehouse, avoid rain and moisture; place with cushion to prevent deformation, keep away from corrosive medium.

  • Transportation: Use special sling for hoisting; avoid collision and surface scratch; fix coils firmly to prevent rolling.

10. Purchasing Notes
