1. Product Definition

Color Coated Coil (also known as color steel coil/color plate) takes hot-dip galvanized steel (GI), galvalume steel (GL), zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated steel (ZAM) or cold-rolled steel (CR) as the base substrate. Through degreasing, cleaning and chemical conversion treatment, it is coated with one or more layers of organic coating by continuous roller coating process, then baked and cured at high temperature to form a metal composite material. It integrates the strength of steel, anti-corrosion performance and decorative effect of coating, also named pre-painted steel coil.

2. Product Structure (Five Layers)

  • Base Substrate: Provides mechanical strength and basic anti-corrosion performance; mainstream materials and models: GI (hot-dip galvanized steel), GL (galvalume steel, 55%Al+43.4%Zn+1.6%Si), ZAM (zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated steel), CR (cold-rolled steel). Common substrate specifications: thickness 0.30–1.20mm, width 1000/1200/1250/1500mm.

  • Chemical Conversion Layer: Material: Chromate-free passivation layer (environmentally friendly type) or chromate passivation layer; acts as a bonding bridge between substrate and coating, improving adhesion and corrosion resistance. Thickness: 0.5–1.0μm.

  • Primer Layer: Main materials: Epoxy resin (EP) or polyurethane (PU); contains anti-rust pigment (such as zinc phosphate), enhancing anti-corrosion ability and interlayer adhesion. Model: EP-100 (epoxy primer), PU-200 (polyurethane primer); thickness: 5–8μm.

  • Topcoat Layer: Determines color, gloss, weather resistance and processing performance; mainstream materials, models and specifications:

    • PE (Polyester): Model PE-300; thickness 20–25μm; gloss 60±5° (glossy type), 30±5° (matte type)

    • SMP (Silicon Modified Polyester): Model SMP-400; thickness 20–25μm; gloss 50±5°

    • HDP (High Durability Polyester): Model HDP-500; thickness 22–27μm; gloss 40±5°

    • PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride): Model PVDF-600; thickness 25–30μm; gloss 30±5° (matte type) or 60±5° (glossy type)

  • Back Coating Layer: Prevents backside corrosion; main materials: Epoxy resin (EP) or polyester (PE); models: EP-B100 (epoxy backcoat), PE-B200 (polyester backcoat); thickness: 5–10μm; common processes: 2/1 (2 coats top, 1 coat bottom), 2/1M (2 coats top, 1 coat bottom with film), 2/2 (2 coats top & bottom).

6. Production Process (Continuous Roller Coating)

Uncoiling → Degreasing & Cleaning (degreasing agent: alkaline aqueous solution, cleaning temperature: 40–60℃) → Chemical Conversion (passivation solution: chromate-free passivation agent, processing time: 3–5s) → Roller Coating (Primer + Topcoat + Back Coating, roller speed: 30–50m/min) → High-temperature Curing (180–240℃, curing time: 2–3min) → Cooling (water cooling + air cooling) → Rewinding (tension: 500–800N) → Packaging; Main processes: 2/1 (2 coats top, 1 coat bottom) , 2/2 (2 coats top & bottom).

  • Storage: Store in a dry and ventilated warehouse, temperature 5–30℃, relative humidity ≤60%; avoid direct sunlight, rain and heavy pressure; stacking layers: ≤3 layers (horizontal stacking) or vertical placement (vertical stacking); avoid contact with corrosive substances (such as acid, alkali) to prevent coating damage and substrate corrosion.
